Chaturmasya His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Question: Chaturmasya is coming now... Yes, chaturmasya is good, but I have told you many times that chaturmasya does not mean you must keep a beard, grow long hair and not eat something, but secretly you will do nonsense. Do not do that. Chaturmasya is very strict, but if you show you are keeping chaturmasya and secretly do nonsense, it is not good for a devotee, it is false renunciation. Do not show false renunciation. I am always a practical man—give an offering to the Deities, Gaura Nitai, and take prasadam. OK? Make opulent bhog for Gaura Nitai and take prasadam. We do not take patal, we do not take some subji—we take prasadam. "Pran achhe yar, sei hetu prachar (প্রাণ আছে যার সেই হেতু প্রচার): as long as you have life in the body, you must preach." Die to live, do you understand? This life is not for enjoyment only—this life is only for surrender to the Lord Himself. Krishna has given me this body for surrender. How can you control your sex life? Honey and ghee increase sex desire, and if you take red dal (masoori dal, lentil) anger comes. So, you must be always careful with the food. Do not follow your tongue. We follow our tongue, that is why problems come—kamini comes, anger comes, lust comes, and so many other bad things come. We must control our tongue, both talking and eating. Do not take outside food, always take prasad. This is what chaturmasya is for—to control your senses. During the chaturmasya there always comes kamini, there always increases lust. That is why in Mahaprabhu's time Jiva Goswami, Sanatan Goswami, Rupa Goswami always controlled their food, and we also must always control our food. If you take prasadam, then there will be no problem. Do not take honey, ghee, if you take them, then kamana-basana (lust desire) will always be increasing, and red dal gives anger like cow's meat (cow's meat and masoori dal are the same). I am telling it to all the devotees: always take prasadam—offer bhog to the Deity and take prasadam...
