Sri Nadan Ghat

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
9 December 2014

This is a very auspicious place, a place of Gurudev's childhood. Here, Gurudev played and worked for a short time at the charitable dispensary.

When his father died, Gurudev was the only one member in his family who earned something—he got a part-time job of a doctor's assistant. The doctor lived here in this house over there, and Gurudev lived in the same house and would cook and help him with the patients.

In the meantime, there was a preaching programme from our temple, Chaitanya Saraswat Math. At that time, many of Srila Guru Maharaj's godbrothers lived in our temple, and sometimes Srila Sridhar Maharaj sent some sannyasis or brahmacharis for preaching, before Gaura Purnima, for some rice collection, and so on. Sometimes Srila Sridhar Maharaj went himself, at other times he sent others.

When the preaching party came to this place, they stayed in a house here. This house was broken and now there is a small temple, a preaching centre in its place. During the day, the devotees went collecting, and in the evening they would make a programme here, singing bhajans, kirtans, Gaudiya Gitanjali songs.

Gurudev lived in a house nearby and heard them sing. Later he told us, "My hands were itching because they did not know how to play the mridanga and I wanted to play it, but I was shy to tell them anything." So, he waited, waited, and finally one day he said, "Can you give me the mridanga please?" A brahmachari gave the mridanga to him, and when they heard how well Gurudev played it, they were all very happy.

After the kirtan, devotees asked Gurudev,

"Can you come to our temple?"

"Yes, I can come, but can I go today?"

"Yes, you can come today!"

At that time, there was no bridge over the river and Gurudev swam across it and went to the temple. It was Nrisingha chaturdasi day and Gurudev was in Chaitanya Saraswat Math....

After that, so many things happened. His family—his mother, brother and the village people—wanted to forcefully take him back, and they made some complaint against Srila Guru Maharaj, "Oh, you have stolen our son!" They complained so much, but finally, by the mercy of Srila Guru Maharaj, Gurudev stayed at the temple... and now he is the visva-guru!

In his memory, a friend of Gurudev donated some land to the temple for a preaching centre, and this centre here is still running. A devotee from our temple lives here and every day does kirtan. Remembering Gurudev, we come here every year on the day after his Vyasa Puja...

Jay Srila Guru Maharaj ki jay!

Brain Treatment
'Actually this body is not only for eating, sleeping, and enjoying. We enjoyed in our previous lives, but it is like a mad man who is walking in the street searching for some dirty paper. If you give the man some dirty paper, it cannot give any benefit to him.'

Samsara-davanala
'One who very carefully recites aloud this Sri Gurvastakam during the brahma-muhurta (the ninety-six minute period before sunrise) attains direct service to the Lord of Vrindavan at the end of life.'

I am doing some service, this is service, and that is service too. Gurudev tells to do both
things, and both are service, but you have to do the service that is the most preferable.
