Mercy Is Not Always Sweet

Without mercy of Nityananda Prabhu, without mercy of Gurudev, you cannot understand anything.

When Sivananda Sen came here with the devotees from Bengal—just as you came here with me following whatever I told you. In this way, Sivananda Sen would bring all the devotees here. And just look how Nityananda Prabhu gave His mercy to him—He kicked him! If I, on the other hand, chastise any of you, you will say, "I do not need such a Guru! My Guru must love me." What is love? What is love to a child?

When a child cries, "I will go with father to work!" He does not understand anything, he only cries, "I will go too!" and disturbs his father. What will the father do? He gives his son a chocolate or a toy—his son immediately forgets about him and the father leaves. It is the same with the Lord. If you want a car, house, money, the Lord will give you everything—He will make you forget Him and leave.

So, Nityananda Prabhu and His party were walking to Puri, and on the way Sivananda Sen got delayed. Now there are bridges, but before to cross a river you had to take a boat. For example, on the way, there is a river called Mahanadi, in some places it is ten kilometres wide, so everybody had to take a boat to cross it. Sivananda Sen got a little late because he was managing the boat fare, making sure everybody got on the boats, etc. Because he got delayed, Nityananda Prabhu cursed him—He said, "Siva's two sons will die!" Sivananda Sen's wife began to cry when she heard it, but when Sivananda Sen heard it, he began to dance... When Sivananda Sen finished at the river and finally came to Nityananda Prabhu, Nityananda Prabhu kicked him. This was His mercy.
