Parikrama: His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
শ্রীগৌড়মণ্ডলভূমি, যেবা জানে চিন্তামণি,
sri-gauda-mandala-bhumi yeba jane chintamani "Those who always think about Sri Nabadwip Dham, reside in Sri Vrindavan." Who writes this? Narottam Das Thakur.
গৌর আমার যে সব স্থানে
gaura amara ye-saba sthane "In the company of loving devotees, I behold all the places my Gaurasundar roamed during His ecstatic Pastimes." [Addressing newly arrived devotees:] You are fortunate that in your old age you have come for Nabadwip Dham parikrama. We do not know when we will leave our body, but we have joined Nabadwip Dham parikrama, and even if you go by rikshaw, you will get benefit. When Gurudev was eighteen years old, he wrote a poem about Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama. Gurudev wrote, "আয় আয় ত্বরা করি, aya aya tvara kari..."—if somebody is old or lame and cannot do the parikrama, if they see devotees doing the parikrama and pay dandavat to them, they will also get some real benefit. We cannot stop death—we can die any day, but we will do parikrama... Also, when I see some eighty-year-old lady walking before me and faster than me, then I get so much energy from them. When I see that, I become surprised. They get strength through chanting of the Holy name—this is the kind of change that comes. If you chant the Holy Name, the Holy Name will take you [on parikrama]. When Hiranyakasipu's people threw Prahlad Maharaj into water, he did not know how to swim, but still he floated. That is the power of the Holy Name. When Chaitanya Mahaprabhu chanted, through His chanting, through the power of the Holy Name, a crocodile got its previous body—a dev-sisu, a child of demigods, got his body back. He was a demigods' son, but he made an offence in Kamyavan, Vrindavan. A small and childish boy, he cut the sikha (jata, dreadlocks) of Durvasa Muni, and Durvasa Muni gave him a curse. He said, "You are a very naughty boy. You have cut my jata! You will become a crocodile (nakra) and be a crocodile for the next four ages!" The boy began to cry so much, "You have given me your curse, what will happen to me now?" As the boy cried so much, Durvasa Muni then said, "OK, I have already said it, it has come out of my mouth, so I cannot change it, but I can tell you something: when Sri Krishna becomes Gauranga Mahaprabhu, He will go to the lake where you will live, and He will chant the Holy Name on the bank of that lake. You will hear the Holy Name from His mouth and get your previous body." Mahaprabhu came to that place (on the third day of the parikrama we pass that place and tell this story at that time) with His associates, chanted the Holy Name and the boy got his previous body—the crocodile body finished. "নিরপরাধে নাম লৈলে পায় প্রেমধন, niraparadhe Nama laile pabe Krsna-prema-dhana: if you chant the Holy Name without offences, you will get the wealth of divine love of Krishna." (Cc, 3.4.71) Gurudev said, "হাতে পেলে সত্য, হরিনাম সত্য, hate pele satya, Harinama satya": what you have in your hands, is true, and the second thing that is true is Harinam...
