His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Translated from Bengali, part 7
27 January 2018, Sri Ekachakra Dham

There are so many jiva souls in this world, but there are not so many human species among them. People say they follow the Vedas, but they do what is prohibited in the Vedas—they practise something for the sake of religion, wealth, material desires, or liberation (dharma, artha, kama, moksa).

When Mahaprabhu came to Keshav Bharati, Keshav Bharati told Him, "This is Kali-yuga, there is actually no sannyas in this age. You have come to take sannyas, but You are only twenty-four—You are living as a grihastha now, You can wait when You become fifty, You can become a vanaprastha, travel to the holy places, but how will you become a sannyasi when you have not even finished your brahmacharya?"

Mahaprabhu said then, "Prabhu, let us say I have become fifty now."

Keshav Bharati said, "You have not learnt to control the five senses (sight, taste, smell, hearing, touch), then even if You are fifty, You cannot take sannyas."

"OK, I am sixty."

"When You are sixty, You still suffer from the six faults of kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, matsarya (lust, anger, greed, attachment, illusion, envy), even then You cannot take sannyas."

"OK, I am ninety."

"Even if You are ninety, unless You have mastered the devotional nine practices, You cannot take sannyas."

"In the beginning there is faith, then good association, then practising life. After that, the offences gradually go away, faith becomes stronger, taste comes, then attachment, then there arises affection and love. This is how love to God comes to those who practise Krsna consciousness."

(Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhuh, 1.4.15-16)

"OK, I am one hundred now."

"Even when You are one hundred, You still cannot control your ten senses—five karmendriya (feet, hands, rectum, genitals, mouth) and five jnanendriya (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin)."

"Does that mean I will never be able to take sannyas?"

Mahaprabhu has expressed this so beautifully.

Finally, when He took sannyas in Katwa, He came with Nityananda Prabhu to the Ganga and saw Advaita Prabhu there. He was surprised, "Advaita, how did You know I was in Vrindavan?"

"Wherever You are, there is Vrindavan."

Then Mahaprabhu realised that He was not in Vrindavan, "Oh? I thought I was in Vrindavan! But I have already recited mantras in glorification of the Yamuna!"

"You did not make any mistake. Here, one bank of the Yamuna and the other is the Ganga. So, there is no problem."

Then, it was a cold winter day, but Sita Rani cooked thirty-two items (battisa-athiya-kalara angatiya pate) for Mahaprabhu and Mahaprabhu chanted kirtan the whole day—we chant for one two hours and feel out of breath, but Mahaprabhu chanted twenty-four hours a day.

Later, the Supreme Lord travelled to the holy places of pilgrimage in South India with the clever intention of delivering the fallen souls. Appearing as a beautiful young renunciate, He distributed the sweet Names of the Lord, singing: "Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna he," as He strolled down the different pathways, entered temples, and visited homesteads during the sacred pilgrimage. Infused with an inconceivable type of divine inspiration, the Lord freely chanted "Rama Rama" and joyfully danced with the most charming gestures. Irrespective of time or personal qualification, the assembled bystanders were delivered by the Lord, who inspired them to chant Krishna's Holy Names. I offer my obeisances to that beautiful Golden Lord, Gauranga Sundar, the divine form of Krishna prema.

(Prema-dhama-deva Stotram, 22)

Chanting, "Krishna, Krishna," He liberated the entire world.

prithivite achhe yata nagaradi grama
sarvatra prachara haibe mora nama

"My Name will spread to every village and town on this earth."

He preached His Name everywhere. The Name, form, qualities, pastimes and associates of the Lord are non-different from the Lord, and only the Lord Himself or His associates can distribute His Holy Name. Mahaprabhu gave Gaura-dham, Gaura-nam—He gave everything to Nityananda Prabhu. It is by the unlimited mercy of this Nityananda Prabhu that we have come to His dham and have got this opportunity to chant His glories.

Always chant the Holy Name. Even those who are cutting the vegetables must also cut the vegetables and chant the Holy Name, chant the Name of Nitai. Come, come for Nityananda Prabhu.

“গোরার আমি, গোরার আমি” মুখে বলিলে নাহি চলে ।

গোরার আচার, গোরার বিচার লইলে ফল ফলে ॥

"gorara ami, gorara ami" mukhe balile nahi chale
gorara achara, gorara vichara la-ile phala phale

Just saying, "I am Gora's! I am Gora's!" does not do. Only when you follow Gora's practices and Gora's conception will you get the proper result.

Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 8.6

loka dekhana gora bhaja tilaka matra dhari'
gopanete atyachara gora dhare churi

You show the world you serve Gora simply by wearing tilak but secretly you misbehave. Gora will catch you, you thief!

(Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 8.7)

Gora knows how much service You do for Him! We do not want people, we do not want any powers, we do not want money, we do not need any of this. Mahaprabhu did not take disciples, but thousands of people followed Him everywhere. We need quality, we do not need quantity! You must not only say "Haribol," "Haribol" with your mouth—even if you read all Vedas, you must first of all follow and practise what is written there yourself, with sincerity, then your life will be successful.

It is necessary to think about this.

Sanatan-siksa: Sixty-Four Devotional Practices
'Sometimes somebody does only one practice, Ambarish Maharaj and others followed all sixty-four devotional practices, but if you can properly follow at least one of these practices, that is sufficient.'
