Jagadananda Pandit: Childhood His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
In his Prema-vivarta Jagadananda Pandit tells what prema (love) is, and the prema (love) that he himself has cannot be seen anywhere... I will tell his story. Where is the birthplace of Jagadananda Prabhu? [Addressing Sripad Paramarthik Maharaj] Maharaj, have you been there? Sripad Paramarthik Maharaj: Yes, it is near Sylhet. And where did he stay in Nabadwip? In a village that is now called Jagadanandapur. We have been there, it is very near our Hapaniya temple. There is an ashram now with a very big house in that place. The landlord actually requested Srila Sridhar Maharaj many times to take possession of the house, but Srila Sridhar Maharaj said that they did not have servitors to serve there, so he refused. Later, he requested Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj to take charge of it and Goswami Maharaj sent a servitor to that place. What kind of prema did Jagadananda Pandit have? He was with Mahaprabhu from a very young age, and he was a little older than Mahaprabhu. When Jagadananda Pandit was seventeen, Mahaprabhu and he went to the same school to study grammar. One time, they had a fist fight (you know, how the boys fight with each other at school). After the fight, Jagadananda Pandit did not go home to his mother—instead, he went to the bank of the Ganges in Nabadwip and sat there silently. His mother came to Sachi Mata and asked, "Sachi Ma, has my Jaga been here?" "No, why?" Suddenly, hearing that Jagadananda was missing, Mahaprabhu got alert, "What? Where did Jagadananda go?!" He at once took a lantern and went out to look for him. Finally, Mahaprabhu found him sitting on the bank of the Ganges—He brought him to His home and asked Sachi Mata to give him prasad. Jagadananda spent the night at their house and in the morning went to school with Nimai. After that he returned home.
