A Heartfelt Appeal

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad

Does anyone have any question? [Silence.] No questions? It means everybody agrees with me? In this case, everybody must follow Krishna consciousness, practise and chanting the maha-mantra. All right?

Leave your family, leave your husband, leave your wife—I am not telling you anything like this. Only leave your ego. "I am working," "I am earning money," "I am cooking"—you must leave this kind of ego. Sri Brahma-samhita (5.1) says,

ঈশ্বরঃ পরমঃ কৃষ্ণঃ সচ্চিদানন্দবিগ্রহঃ ।
অনাদিরাদির্গোবিন্দঃ সর্ব্বকারণকারণম্ ॥

isvarah paramah krsnah sach-chid-ananda-vigrahah
anadir adir govindah sarva-karana-karanam

"Krishna, who is known as Govinda, is the supreme controller. He has an eternal, blissful, spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin, for He is the prime cause of all causes."

He is the cause of all causes—He does everything, and we are only His instruments. Therefore, do not steal His things. Think about it. Someone plants a tree, or a flower plant, but not all flowers, not all things are used properly. Today, you have offered garlands to Gurudev and all the Deities, that means these flower plants are also fortunate because they are getting a chance to serve Krishna, they are getting a chance to serve Radharani. Some flowers are used at the cremation ghat, some flowers are used at some sraddha ceremony or a wedding ceremony, but only fortunate souls can get some ajnata sukriti (unconscious spiritual merit) through service to the Lord.

So, you have no questions? Have you listened properly? Do you understand everything? What kirtans do you sing? You must sing five songs every morning and five songs every evening. We sing, "Gurudev, krpa bindu diya" and "Sri Guru-charana-padma kevala bhakati sadma", "Sri Krishna Chaitanya Prabhu Nityananda Sri Advaita Gadadhara Srivasadi Gaura-bhakta-vrinda", "Sri Krishna Chaitanya Prabhu daya kara more, toma vina ke dayalu jagata majhare" (evening time) and "Sri Krishna Chaitanya Prabhu jive daya kari svaparsada sviyadhama saha avatara" (morning time), "Ohe Vaishnava Thakura dayara sagara e dase karuna kari diya pada-chaya sodha he amare tomara charana dhari." These are the main songs—we are always in a worshipful mood. "Thakura Vaisnava-gana, kari ei nivedana mo bada adhama durachara." We always feel we are very fallen souls, we are durachar, most sinful and wicked.

[His Divine Grace starts a kirtan:]

thakura vaisnava-gana kari ei nivedana
mo bada adhama durachara
daruna-samsara-nidhi tahe dubaila vidhi
kese dhari' more kara para [1]

O worshippable Vaisnavas, I offer you this prayer. I am very fallen and misbehaved. Destiny has immersed me in the fearsome ocean of material existence. Please grab me by the hair and pull me to the shore.

vidhi bada balavan na sune dharama-jnana
sadai karama-pase bandhe
na dekhi tarana lesa yata dekhi saba klesa
anatha katare tei kande [2]

Destiny is very powerful. It does not listen to my knowledge of religion and always binds me with the ropes of karma. I do not see even a trace of hope. All I see is hardship. Thus helpless and distressed, I cry.

"Prabhu! I am always crying to you—please grab me by my sikha and rescue me from this illusory environment! Give me some opportunity to serve you! I am suffering in the illusory environment—I keep coming and going, always attacked by the illusory environment; only you can rescue me from this situation! You are a great Vaishnav, please give me an opportunity to serve you!"

kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, abhimana saha
apana apana sthane tane
aichana amara mana phire yena andha jana
supatha vipatha nahi jane [3]

Lust, anger, greed, illusion, pride, and ego all pull me in their own directions. Thus my mind wanders like a blind man who does not know the right way from the wrong way.

A blind man cannot cross the road on his own, some help is necessary. My mind is also like that. I am praying to you, O Vaishnav Thakur! Without your help my mind is going everywhere, to so many bad places, my mind is very naughty—only you can control my mind! Just as a blind man does not know how to cross the road, does not know what is the good way, what is the bad way (supath and vipath), my mind also does not know anything, it is always running everywhere, sometimes going down the good path, sometimes going down the bad path, but you can control my mind—through your association, my mind can change. I surrender to you, only you can control my mind, and through your association my mind can get some service to you.

na la-inu sat mata asate majila chita
tuya paye na karinu asa
narottama dase kaya dekhi' suni' lage bhaya
taraiya laha nija pasa [4]

I have never accepted the proper conception. My mind has been immersed in illusion, and I have never aspired for your feet. Narottam Das says, "Seeing and hearing about my situation, I am stricken with fear. Please rescue me and keep me by your side."

Narottam Das Thakur is praying to the Vaishnav Thakur in this way. How much quality he has, you can see his humility. He is praying to Vaishnav Thakur, "I am very afraid. When I see everything in this world, I feel very afraid. Please, Prabhu, take me. I want to go with you!" 'Laha nija pasa' means, "Please take me from the illusory environment and engage me in your service!"

Proper Utilisation
'All our Guru-varga gave their life for service to the Lord. Gurupad-padma, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur—they all used everybody and everything for service to the Lord.'

Durlabha manava-janma
'I eat luxuriously, look around, and dress carelessly, never considering that one day I will leave this body.'
দুর্লভ মানব জন্ম

We keep desires inside, we do not show them at first, but it is like a dormant fire
inside ash. It will slowly, slowly grow, and will eventually come out.
