(1/10) Sadhus' Approach His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
You have gathered here today, and we have also come here, as each year, as part of our Nabadwip Dham Parikrama Pracharani Sobha (Assembly for Preaching about Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama), which was started by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. Before Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama, he would hold meetings to preach about this parikrama. We, too, visit various places after observing Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's festival. Why should we go for Nabadwip Dham parikrama? What does it give? I have come to you all to explain this and to describe the glories of the holy dham. Many of you have visited the holy dham, and many of you have done Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama many times; therefore, you know what this parikrama must be done for. We go for Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama every year to hear about the glory of Sri Nabadwip Dham from the holy mouths of sadhus and gurus. We do not go there for any entertainment or a mere outing; we do not go there to satisfy our own senses or to do eye-exercise. We circumambulate the holy abode to hear about the Lord in the association of saints. Wherever there is Hari-katha, Hari-kirtan, wherever sadhus are, wherever sadhus always speak about Lord Krishna – this is Goloka Vrindavan, or Mathura Dham. A holy place is where sadhus always speak about the Lord. What place is called holy? 'Yatha Vaishnav, tatha tirtha': a holy place is present wherever there is a Vaishnav. What do Vaishnavs do? They chant the glories of Gauranga Mahaprabhu – they glorify Nitai-Gaura and speak about the glories of their guru-varga, the Holy Name (Nama) and the Bearer of the Holy Name (Nami). There is no difference between the Name and He whose Name it is – this is what Vaishnavs speak about. They explain what is the religion of the soul and about the benefit of the soul. This is what we must understand first of all. We must ask ourselves, 'Who am I? What is the meaning of this human birth? Why was I born as a human? What is my duty as a human being?' Because many do not know this, sadhus go begging house to house to tell you about this. So, if you want to know what is a holy place and who you are, you must come to sadhus and learn about it from them. First, you must know who you are (you must have atma-tattva-jnana). You must understand that we are not these bodies. I am not this body. My parents created this body for me, but they did not create me that which I am. I am created by the Lord, and the Lord has sent me to this human body. This is the truth. If you take your blood and compare it to your parents' blood, you will see that it is the same blood. So, your parents jointly produce your bodies, but once this body drops down dead, you will go away, and this body will have no value – one or two days later, it will start to rot and smell bad. Be it a goat, a cow, a snake, a frog, a cat, a dog – everybody's bodies drop down dead and stay lying on the street; if some soul comes from a good family, they take the body to a crematorium and burn it quickly. But dogs and cows are not burnt, so their bodies remain lying and decaying on the street. We must understand who we are and what is good for us (what is good for our souls). Sadhus come to this world just so that you can learn about this.
