(3/10) Wasteful Living, Low Thinking

The soul is part of the Lord, and the soul knows the 'news' about the Lord. Another thing I want to say is that you will not get any news or any letter directly from the Lord. I told this recently, in Ekachakra. If you want to send a 'letter' to the Lord, you must send it through His representative, who is the Lord's close associate, the Lord's own. They come to this world, take letters and deliver them to the Lord. Otherwise, you cannot get any news or any letter directly from the Lord. But it is possible to hear from the Lord – through the guru and Vaishnavs. You can know about the Lord from those who keep the Lord in their hearts. That is why we come and surrender at the holy lotus feet of sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs.

We have been living in aversion to the Lord since time immemorial. Forgetting the Lord, we are now suffering in the agony of the three-fold miseries. The only way to get relief from this suffering is to take shelter at the holy feet of the Lord.

Overcome with ego, we think that we are the masters, the managers. We think that we take care of our families, that we do everything, and that without us, our family will not survive. Actually, this is not true. Sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs try very hard to explain to everybody that the Lord has kept some property with you, but this property is to be used in service to Lord Govinda.

We must come to sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs and hear from them. Who am I? Why am I suffering so much? What is good for me? What is the goal of life? How can I attain this goal of life?

‘সাধ্যবস্তু’ ‘সাধন’-বিনা কেহ নাহি পায় ।
কৃপা করি’ কহ, রায়, পাবার উপায় ॥

'sadhya-vastu' 'sadhana' vinu keha nahi paya
krpa kari' kaha, raya, pabara upaya

'No one can achieve the goal of life without practising (following sadhana). Please kindly tell me, Ray, how can I attain this goal?'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.8.196)

No one can achieve the goal without practising, without striving to achieve it. Therefore, we must always practise Krishna consciousness (keep proper sadhana). Those who are not practising yet, who have not come to this path yet, are very unfortunate. There is nobody in this world as unfortunate as them.

'Ahankare matta haina Nitai-pada pasariya asatyere satya kari mani (অহঙ্কারে মত্ত হৈঞা নিতাইপদ পাসরিয়া অসত্যেরে সত্য করি মানি).' Forgetting Nitai's holy feet, they become puffed up with ego and take untruth for the truth. 'Sei pasu bada durachara (সেই পশু বড় দুরাচার).' Such souls are animals who live an abominable life. 'Nitai na balila mukhe majila samsara sukhe vidya-kule ki karibe tara (নিতাই না বলিল মুখে মজিল সংসার সুখে বিদ্যাকুলে কি করিবে তার). You have never uttered Nitai's Name, living immersed in material pleasures – do you think your education and noble birth will save you?' However learned you may be – however much knowledge you may have accumulated – it is all useless unless you learn about the Lord. Unless you acquire transcendental knowledge (para-vidya) and understand who you are (atma-tattva-jnana), your life is useless. Such people live in vain, merely wasting time. Do you think you have time? Do you think there is time to think about this body? You have lived in this world worrying about your body for so long – you have wasted so much time! You plunge yourself into material life, thinking, 'This is my house', 'This is my wife', 'This is my child', 'This is my family', and as you keep thinking about all this, your life is finishing. You do not have time to call out to the Lord! You are wasting time.
