Spiritual Mockery

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Kolkata, speaking online to
devotees in São Paulo (Brazil),
7 April 2019

Without the mercy of Gurudev, without the mercy of the devotees, you cannot proceed in your spiritual life. Sometimes, we see that something can start in a gorgeous way, but it slowly diminishes and comes to nothing. Actually, we do not need to be a guru, we do not need to be an acharya, a manager or a temple president. It is not necessary. It is only necessary to be a simple servitor. We cannot understand what is Krishna consciousness life, what is our movement's life, but if we look at it from a little distance, then we can understand it. I was telling today also,

ব্রহ্মাণ্ড ভ্রমিতে কোন ভাগ্যবান্ জীব ।
গুরু-কৃষ্ণ-প্রসাদে পায় ভক্তিলতা-বীজ ॥

brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva
guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija

"Having travelled throughout the universe and got the mercy of Guru, Krishna, a fortunate soul receives a seed of the devotional creeper."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 19.151)

You have got the seed from Gurudev, and if you water that seed, the bhakti-lata bij plant will sprout and grow, but if you water it too much, the tree will rot and you will become a sahajiya (imitator)—devotion will run away from you. We want to learn, we want to read so many things, but Srila Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur told that if you are thirsty you need only one glass of water, it is not necessary to think about a big ocean. So, for our spiritual life, it is sufficient to be only a simple servitor. It is important to understand this.

Srila Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur also said that when we do some service, when we come to Krishna consciousness, we think that we will get something, some spiritual or material benefit, but this is also a desire (kama). Prahlad Maharaj said that if you put a piece of wood into a fire, the fire will start burning more, if you put ten pieces of wood, the fire will burn even more—if you put a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand pieces of wood, the fire will grow more and more, it will never stop. Material desires are like this. Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur said,

বিষয়ে যে প্রীতি এবে আছয়ে আমার ।
সেই মত প্রীতি হউক চরণে তোমার ॥

visaye ye priti ebe achhaye amara
sei-mata priti hauk charane tomara

"May I have the same affection and attraction to your feet that I now have for material things."

(Gitavali, 4.5, Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur)

Kama, desire, should come for the Lord. We must increase our service mood day by day—for the Lord. Kama (desire) is there, it is unavoidable, but it must be used for the opposite—not for our own interest, not for our own things.

We live in the material world and enjoy with Krishna's things, but everything exists for the service to the Lord. Because we have so much ego, we use everything for our own pleasure. Actually, we took initiation from a Guru, but it is not a real initiation—we only pretend to be disciples. The temple that Srila Guru Maharaj made and that Gurudev served is not for enjoyment—it is for service.

If you think, "I will see Jagannath," you will not be able to see Jagannath. If you think, "I will see Lord Krishna," you will not be able to see Him—you will only see a wooden doll. You cannot see the real Lord, real Krishna. Only if you think of Him as your worshippable Deity (sevya-vastu), if you realise that Krishna is the Supreme Personality and you are only His tiny servitor—if such conception comes to you—then Jagannath will appear, Krishna will appear in front of you, then you will be able to understand it, otherwise not.

'Bhajahu Re Mana'
'This song was written by Govinda Das. There were two brothers who used to always fight: one brother, Govinda, worshipped Mother Kali, and the other brother worshipped Lord Krishna..'

Sujanarvuda-radhita-pada-yugam
'He is the embodiment of Hari-kirtan. He mercifully relieves Mother Earth of the burden upon her. He is an associate of Sri Gaura, and more kind and affectionate than a father. Eternally I offer my obeisance to my master's feet.'

Why are we tired? Tired means we are using our time for another purpose; it means maya is taking our time for her own purpose.
