(4/12) Happy Existence His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Everything that is created in this world exists for the pleasure of the Lord. But what do we do? We take those things and enjoy them ourselves, and that is why we are getting a reaction. It is natural: every action must have some reaction. For example, if you try to kill somebody, the person will think how to try to kill you, too. You are alive in this world, but you live here at the expense of killing millions of living entities. When we take a breath, so many living entities enter our bodies and die inside it. When you walk down the street or drive a car, so many insects die under your feet or wheels. When you eat rice, you also kill – how will you get rice if you do not cut the paddy? What to speak of outside people who eat meat and fish, even when you eat cabbage, cauliflower, gours, spinach, you also kill (those who eat fish and meat commit even more murderous acts). So, even a sadhu can be seen eating or killing living entities. What is the solution to such a life? Srimad Bhagavatam gives this solution, and it is to tell this message of Srimad Bhagavatam that we take so much trouble to come to you all. If we can explain this to you and bring you to this path, then we can clear our debt to the Lord. We enjoy with the Lord's things our entire lives, birth after birth. When we were born as dogs or vultures, we ate so many dead cows. People pass stool, rejecting it as somebody abominable, but pigs eat that stool. Born as such pigs, we, too, ate so much stool in our lives! When we were born as elephants, we finished so many banana trees. When we were born as tigers, we ate so many deer, birds and other animals. Living all those lives, we have incurred much debt, and it is necessary for us to clear this debt. That is why we come to you and tell you to come with us and practise Krishna consciousness. Think about the Lord. Search for the solution how you can live without killing. The solution is in using everything that exists in this world for the service of Lord Govinda. To do this, you do not have to leave your families. For example, you can wake up early in the morning, come to see the Lord and then cook something for the Lord, and as you are cooking, you can think about Lord Krishna, 'O Krishna, I am cooking for You.' Cook and offer bhog to the Deities. Your husband goes out to work, so give him some prasad before he leaves. Your children go out to school – give them some prasad, too. And when they leave, you can take prasad yourself. In the same way, offer some bhog again in the afternoon and in the evening. Offer whatever you can get. The Lord does not want so many fruit, flat rice, yoghurt, sweets, sweet rice, pilau, etc. What does the Lord want? Just one Tulasi leaf and a drop of Ganges water. Does that cost a lot? Can you not get Tulasi leaves if you plant a Tulasi tree at your house? And how hard is it to get water from the Ganges? It is right here, nearby. The Lord says, 'If somebody worships Me offering Me a Tulasi leaf with a drop of Ganges water every day, I can never repay their debt.' What is the Lord to do then? He says, 'I give them Myself. I become their slave – I stand and sit at their command. Whatever they say goes.' We must always think about these things.
