(6/12) Short Time, Short Life

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Bakultala, noon class, 7 April 2019, part 6
Translated from Bengali

Whatever you want to use or take in this world, you must first give it (offer it) to the Lord because everything that is created in this world is created for Him.

You can see this small girl sitting in the lap of her parents. If you take her blood and compare it to the blood of her parents, you will see that it is the same blood group. So, her parents give her her blood and body, but they do not give her that which she is. Who gives everybody life? God. The problem is that we always think about our bodies, but we do not think about He who created us and sent us to this world, about who we are meant to exist for; we only think about those who have given us our bodies. We spend all our time with our fathers, mothers, friends, brothers, sisters, wives, children and other relatives, but we never think about He who has creates us! We do not think about God. That is our only fault. We forgot God.

কৃষ্ণ ভুলি' সেই জীব অনাদি-বহির্ম্মুখ ।

'Forgetting Krishna, the soul turned towards the external illusory world in primaeval times. As the result, illusion (Maya) gives such a soul various material miseries.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.20.117)

Because we have forgotten the Lord, we are now suffering from the agony of three-fold miseries: adhidaivik (আধিদৈবিক, miseries caused by the nature or gods), adhibhautik (আধিভৌতিক) (miseries caused by your own body or mind) and adhyatmik (আধ্যাত্মিক, miseries caused by other souls). We keep coming to this world, living material lives. You are happy that you are a human this birth, but does it ever cross your mind to wonder how long you will be in this world? Fifty years? Sixty years? Seventy years? Eighty years? A hundred years? Who lives in this world longer than that? Do you know anybody in your village who is older than one hundred? There are billions of people in this world, but how many people are there who live to a hundred? For example, a mosquito's lifespan is fifteen days (somebody says that they live for one and a half months, but scriptures say they live for fifteen days) – during these fifteen days, mosquitos are born, get married, get children, grandchildren. They, too, think, 'Oh, I will live long and drink more and more blood!' We are just like that, too, because we live for one hundred years and only eat, eat, eat. We spend the whole life wanting this, this, that.

You are young and healthy now, but when you get old, you will need another person to help you walk. When you are a child, you play in the lap of your family without a care in the world. When you grow up, you marry, start your own family, then you grow old and you keep looking back at your material life. What is the way out of such a life? Days are passing in vain! You are losing your time! If you waste your time now, you will not get this time again! Do you understand it? This is something you should always remember.

Do not forget the Lord! You must always chant the Lord's Holy Names. Taking shelter of a bona fide guru, you must practise Krishna consciousness (live serving God).

I will speak again a little later. Let us chant some kirtan now. We have time, Srila Ashram Maharaj can also speak in English, and I will translate what he says into Bengali. Now I will chant some kirtan. Everybody must chant with me attentively, too. I have told you that I did not come here to chant kirtan – I came so that you can chant kirtan. It is not necessary to sing loudly or to have a good ear (to be able to sing beautifully). The Lord does not want to hear your tune – the Lord is waiting for you to call Him. When you call your husband or child, do you do it singing some tunes? It is the same with the Lord. You should only call out to Him, 'Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.' Do it as you can, whatever voice you have. The Lord says, 'When My devotee calls Me, I come to them wherever I am. I leave everything and come to them.'

The main thing is that you must always think about the Lord. What I am telling you is written in our books, you can get them and read them at home. We have many wonderful books. There are very nice things written in these books, and I also have a few books of my lectures. Why would you not do that? We have very little time in this world, and we are not as fortunate as Pariksit Maharaj who received a seven days' notice that he had to die seven days later. We will not get any such notice. Whenever Lord Yama sends his messengers to take us, they will come and take us away...

The Supreme and the Tiny
'Who Sriman Nityananda Prabhu and Srimati Radharani will take service from, that is Their matter, but we should try heart and soul. We must do our duty.'

We keep desires inside, we do not show them at first, but it is like a dormant fire
inside ash. It will slowly, slowly grow, and will eventually come out.
