(4/8) Unhealthy Condition

When we were young, we looked very beautiful, but now that we have grown old we have double chins, our teeth have fallen out, our hair is turning white. We are losing everything one by one. 'Vrddha-kala aola, saba sukha bhagala, pida-vase hainu katara (বৃদ্ধকাল আওল, সব সুখ ভাগল, পীড়াবশে হইনু কাতর). Now old age has come and all happiness has fled – distressed by diseases, I have become miserable' (Saranagati). But that fleeting material happiness is all we know in this life. People of this world cannot understand anything. When Mahaprabhu appeared on this planet, He said:

পৃথিবীতে যত আছে নগরাদি গ্রাম ।
সর্ব্বত্র প্রচার হইবে মোর নাম ॥

prthivite yata achhe nagaradi grama
sarvatra prachara haibe mora nama

'My Name will be spread in every town and village of the world.'

(Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat, 3.4.126)

It is our duty to preach about His Holy Names and to practise chanting His Holy Names in our own lives. If you hire a band and hear them sing, what benefit does it bring to you? You eat every day, you sleep every day, you take a shower every day – in the same way, you must feed the Lord every day. You must serve the Lord every single day, eternally.

Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai are coming to stay here, so They must be served every single day. It is necessary to make all the arrangement so that Their service continues uninterrupted every day, but the problem is that we do not understand this. We do not understand, do not know anything. We talk so much, but we feel shy to say 'Hare Krishna' – we cannot say it. We cannot call the Lord, 'Hare Krishna! Radha-Krishna!' Why cannot we? Because there are too many offences.

‘কৃষ্ণনাম’ করে অপরাধের বিচার ।
কৃষ্ণ বলিলে অপরাধীর না হয় বিকার ॥

'krsna-nama' kare aparadhera vichara
krsna balile aparadhira na haya vikara

'The Holy Name of Krishna considers offences: when one who commits ten offences of the Holy Name takes the Name of Krishna, it produces no transformation in them.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.8.24)

When somebody chants the Holy Names of Lord Krishna, His Holy Names judge whether there are any offences in such chanting. If the Holy Name sees that those who are trying to chant it have some offences inside, the Holy Name does not come to the mouths of such people.

অসাধুসঙ্গে ভাই কৃষ্ণনাম নাহি হয় ।
নামাক্ষর বাহিরায় বটে তবু নাম কভু নয় ॥

asadhu-sange bhai krsna-nama nahi haya
namaksara bahiraya bate tabu nama kabhu naya

'Brother, the Name of Krishna never appears in bad association: the letters of the Name may appear, but the Name never does.'

সাধুসঙ্গে কৃষ্ণনামে—এই মাত্র চাই ।
সংসার জিনিতে আর কোন বস্তু নাই ॥

sadhu-sange krsna-nama—ei matra chai
samsara jinite ara kona vastu nai

'I desire only to chant the Name of Krishna in the association of sadhus. There is no other way to conquer this material world.'

(Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 7.1, 6.3)

We must always remember that the Holy Name must be chanted in good association.

সাধুসঙ্গে কৃষ্ণনামে—এই মাত্র চাই ।
সংসার জিনিতে আর কোন বস্তু নাই ॥

sadhu-sange krsna-nama—ei matra chai
samsara jinite ara kona vastu nai

'I desire only to chant the Name of Krishna in the association of sadhus. There is no other way to conquer this material world.'

(Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 7.1, 6.3)

This is all we are begging you for – please chant the Holy Name of Lord Krishna in the association of sadhus. This is something we always forget. Therefore, always practise Krishna consciousness, always chant the Holy Name. It is only because we are obstructed by the rules and regulations that we cannot take shelter of a bona fide guru.

There are many doctors roaming this world – some doctor loves you for your money, and some doctor loves you for who you are. Not all doctors love you, and not all doctors will prescribe you medicine with full affection. When a doctor prescribes some medicine, he give you a paper to buy the medicine and he will also tell you to avoid unhealthy food and to keep a healthy diet. A proper doctor will never tell a diabetic patient to take sweets. Always think about this. Lord Siva told Parvati Devi, 'O Devi! There are many gurus in this world who will come to take away your property and money, but there are very few gurus who will come to take away your material misery.'
