We have come to this village today. [Clamour] It is an offence to talk during Hari-katha.

gramya-katha na sunibe, gramya-varta na kahibe
bhala na khaibe ara bhala na paribe
amani manada hana krsna-nama sada la’be
vraje radha-krsna seva manase karibe

‘Do not listen to village talks, do not speak about village news. Do not eat fancy food, do not wear fancy clothes. Do not expect honour from others, give all respect to others. Always chant the Holy Name of Krishna and serve Radha-Krishna in your mind.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 3.6.236–237)

Do not chat, do not talk about any other things. Say again loudly:

হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
হরে রাম হরে রাম রাম রাম হরে হরে ॥

hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare

By the mercy of Sri Gurupadpadma, we are present here in this village. Nisikanta Prabhu has invited us to come for your benefit. 'How can I bring benefit to this village?' – thinking about your benefit, he has called us here. ‘Chhadiya vaisnava-seva nistara payechhe keba (ছাড়িয়া বৈষ্ণব-সেবা নিস্তার পায়েছে কেবা). You cannot get relief without service to Vaishnavs’ (Srila Narottam Das Thakur). To get such association of Vaishnavs, Nisikanta Prabhu has invited you all, as well as us, here. This is why you have assembled here today, but if you cannot listen to Hari-katha properly – if you cannot listen with your heart and soul – then this day will pass in vain; it will be a waste of time. So, do not waste your time – do not speak, steady your mind and focus it on listening and glorifying the Lord. I am begging you all to give your minds to me as alms.

The mind lives in the external world, and the soul lives in the internal world. Our senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin), mind, intelligence and ego all live in the external world. Coming here, however, you can attain something very rare, something that can be got only from the Lord Himself or from the Lord's close associates.

I know that for the past month you have been chanting the Holy Name going village to village. That is why Nisikanta Prabhu has arranged this festival today, inviting sannyasis, brahmacharis and devotees.

What happens if we associate with devotees, sadhus? What happens if we serve the guru? What happens if we serve Lord Krishna? Why should we serve Krishna? Why have we come to this world? And why have we got this human birth? What is the purpose of this human birth? All these different questions come to our minds. We come from different backgrounds, so we all take shelter in different kinds of worship – we make different kinds of festivals, we worship different kinds of gods and goddesses, we follow many kinds of traditional rituals, sing songs and play music instruments. But the event organised today is not the same as all those other traditional functions. You can practise all those traditions in all births, but it take much good fortune for that which we have come here for today to come in one's life. Not everybody is fortunate to attend devotional events. You can hire a kirtan band and they will come and sing – you have heard people sing all kinds of kirtan; but compared to them, what we are doing here today is as different as night and day.

So, it is a very fortunate day today. You are very fortunate that sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs have come to your home today.

মহান্ত-স্বভাব এই তারিতে পামর ।
নিজ-কার্য্য নাহি তবু যান তার ঘর ॥

mahanta-svabhava ei tarite pamara
nija karya nahi tabu yana tara ghara

‘It is the innate nature of great souls to deliver vile fallen souls. Great souls never come to their homes for any personal purpose.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.8.39)

Why do sadhus go to others' homes? To rescue people, to rescue their families, friends and fellow villagers.

Path To Bhakti-Rasa
'Guru is always merciful. I do not want to drink the bhakti-rasa, I do not want to do Hari-bhajan, but he forcefully keeps me, at his lotus feet, at the lotus feet of Lord Krishna, this is his power.' What is the path to such mercy and how to walk it?.

If you do not give up these four—dyuta, pana, striya, suna—it is bad for you,
and you can be attacked by Kali Maharaj.
