Disciple's Dedication

I see many devotees have come to take initiation today. Initiation is not only taking a mantra. One does not become a disciple just by taking a mantra. A disciple's duty is to always follow his Gurudev's instruction. A disciple will always follow the rules and regulations and a disciple will always follow properly what Gurudev tells.

Actually, not everybody can be a disciple. Many devotees take initiation, but not everybody becomes a disciple—only a few people become a disciple. In this world, you can get so many gurus, but you will not find so many disciples. It is very difficult to be a proper disciple. A disciple is a person who serves the Lord under the guidance of their Guru and Vaishnavs, who always fully follows their instructions, who is fully and properly surrendered. Therefore, a disciple's duty is to always serve their Guru in any possible way. There are many ways one can serve their Guru—the main thing is that you must follow properly what Gurudev is telling, you must follow properly Gurudev's instruction.

As I have said, you will get so many gurus in this world, but you will not find a proper disciple so easily. If you only wear a dhoti, put tilaks, wear the kanthi-mala, these are external things; initiation is about devotion and it comes from the heart.

Krishna Himself comes in this age of Kali as Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu went door to door preaching this Holy Name. This Holy Name came from Krishna—it was passed down from Krishna to Brahma, from Brahma to Narad, from Narad to Vyasadev. In this way, it was passed down to Madhavendra Puri who is the main root of this line. After that, the Holy Name was passed down from Madhavendra Puri to Ishwar Puri, from Ishwar Puri to Mahaprabhu. You can see that the Lord Himself took initiation, the Lord Himself accepted a Guru because if you want to learn anything, for example if you want to learn how to cook, it is necessary to have a guru—whatever you want to learn, it is necessary to have a teacher.

Then, you are very fortunate because you have come to our line, to our Chaitanya Saraswat Math. The founder acharya of this Chaitanya Saraswat Math is Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj. After that, all property of Srila Sridhar Maharaj came to our Gurudev, Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj. When we say 'property', we do not mean the temple, buildings, Deities, etc. This is not the property of the Guru—the property of the Guru is his love, affection, his heart. Srila Sridhar Maharaj gave all his property to Gurudev, and after that Gurudev gave all his property to me. I have just explained what property means—it is not the Guru's temple, buildings, Deities, land, etc. No. The property of a Guru is his love, affection, his heart. Gurudev has given everything to me and he empowered me also to give initiation to those who want to take initiation, who want to serve the Mission, who want to serve the temple, who want to follow the rules and regulation, and those who want to preach Krishna consciousness. I think that you have got a great benefit through the good association in Caracas, Venezuela, so you are ready to receive initiation today.

So, take the beads and first chant,

শ্রীকৃষ্ণচৈতন্য প্রভু নিত্যানন্দ ।
শ্রীঅদ্বৈত গদাধর শ্রীবাসাদি গৌরভক্তবৃন্দ ॥

sri-krsna-chaitanya prabhu nityananda
sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi gaura-bhakta-vrinda

First chant this Pancha-tattva's Name, ask Them for mercy, then you can start chanting from the big beads,

হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
হরে রাম হরে রাম রাম রাম হরে হরে ॥

hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare

Next bead,

হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
হরে রাম হরে রাম রাম রাম হরে হরে ॥

hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare

And so on. Start chanting from the big beads, when you come to the small beads, take turn and chant from the small beads to the big beads. Chant in this way sixteen rounds or more, it is good for you, but if you are busy with service any day, you must chant not less than four rounds. Four rounds must be chanted every day. Krishna will reveal Himself in your heart, and you will be successful in your spiritual life. There is also this book about the ten offences. You must read the entire book, read what the main ten offences are, memorise what they are and you must avoid these ten offences. If you can chant without offences, you will get the result quickly.
