‘The desire to gratify one’s own senses is kama (lust), but the desire to please the senses of Lord Krishna is prema (divine love).’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.4.165)

Love for Krishna means we should do nothing for the pleasure of our own senses. In this world, all people work from morning till night, thinking, 'What will I eat?', 'What will I wear?', 'How will I sleep?', 'Where will I live?' People are always busy with their own selves, but sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs leave everything and are always busy with the service to the Lord. We have come to such a guru, or sadhu, and we should not waste this opportunity. Time will be gone, and you will not get such an opportunity again.

‘krsna bhaja’ bale uchchaihsvare

‘Gaudiya Vaishnavs call out loudly: Wake up! Wake up, brother! There is no time left! Worship Lord Krishna!’

(Acharya Vandana)

We have no time! We can leave this world at any moment, so do not waste your time. Many people say, 'Oh, I will chant the Holy Name when I am old.' Now you are young, this is the time to chant the Holy Name, but you are only enjoying and having fun. You think you will chant in your old age, but when you grow old, your back will ache, your hands will pain, your legs will pain – you will not be able to do parikrama, you will not be able to count the beads, and when you try to chant 'Hare' you will only be able to say 'Pare'. When you are old, you will sit in one place, you will be ruined by diseases. Do you think you will be able to concentrate on chanting the Holy Name then? So, if you think that you will chant the Holy Name in your old age, you are greatly mistaken. If you are to do it, you must start from a young age, then you will get time to chant the Holy Name, then you will get a result. Otherwise, 'Vrddha-kala aola, saba sukha bhagala, pida-vase ha-inu katara (বৃদ্ধকাল আওল, সব সুখ ভাগল, পীড়াবশে হইনু কাতর). Now old age has come and all happiness has fled—distressed by diseases, I have become miserable' (Saranagati).

'Bhaktera hrdaye sada govinda-visrama (ভক্তের হৃদয়ে সদা গোবিন্দ-বিশ্রাম). Govinda always rests in the hearts of His devotees.' Why does Lord Govinda always rest in devotees' hearts? Because Govinda wants a clean and tidy place. What does clean mean? It means clean from kanak, kamini, pratistha (desire for money, women, fame), kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, matsarya (lust, anger, greed, illusion, madness, envy), rupa, rasa, gandha, sabda, sparsa (desire for enjoyment through eyes, tongue, nose, ears, skin). Do you think that a clean room means a shining marbled room? It is not!

'The Lord favours the poor because those who have a high birth, knowledge and wealth are very proud.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 3.4.68)

The Lord gives mercy to those who are poor because rich people are proud of their money and wealth. They are proud of their millions, but is there any end to enjoyment? The real (supreme) enjoyer is the Supreme Lord. How big is your capacity to enjoy? The other day I read about an MP's son whose son got married in Dubai. For the wedding, they rented fifty(!) aeroplanes to transport everybody from Delhi to Dubai. How much they enjoy! In our country, if a husband celebrates his wife's birthday, everybody will laugh at him, but Anil Ambani gave an aeroplane to his wife as a birthday present, which is worth 4,500,000,000 rupees. They can sit on that plane and play badmintone. There is no limit to enjoyment. But the Lord is the master of everything – He is the greatest enjoyer. What is your enjoyment compared to His? All you need is a house, a room – you do not even need an A/C to sleep well.

We must go to the place where real happiness and enjoyment is. This is Goloka Vrindavan. This is where our home is; this is our address. Losing our address, we are now living here, scattered all over this world – somebody is living in Jharkhand, somebody is living in Bengal, somebody is living in Delhi, somebody is living in London, somebody is living in America, and so on. But we are all children of the Lord...

Yukta-Vairagya:
The Right Perspective
'If you do not have money, it is not a problem—you can just serve with some water and Tulasi and keep Lord Krishna in your heart. Unfortunately, however, you get some happiness and, enjoying with that, you forget Krishna.'

Even Brahma may come and show us so much opulence, but we have no time to go there.
