As the result of great fortune, we are present here to observe the appearance day of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu. It is a very auspicious day. We always wait for this day during the year, thinking, "When will this day come?" Without Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's mercy, we cannot progress in the line of Krishna consciousness and spiritual life. As we progress in Krishna consciousness, many obstacles and difficulties will come, and we pray to overcome them:

আর কবে নিতাইচাঁদ করুণা করিবে ।
সংসার-বাসনা মোর কবে তুচ্ছ হ'বে ॥

ara kabe nitaichand karuna karibe
samsara-vasana mora kabe tuchha ha'be

"When will Nitaichand give mercy to me? When will all my material desires become insignificant?"

(Prarthana, Srila Narottam Das Thakur)

We love our wives, sons, friends, family, but when will this love go away and when will love for devotees come instead? We are more affectionate and attached to our wives, sons, daughters and friends.

আর কবে নিতাইচাঁদ করুণা করিবে ।
সংসার-বাসনা মোর কবে তুচ্ছ হ'বে ॥

ara kabe nitaichand karuna karibe
samsara-vasana mora kabe tuchha ha'be

"When will Nitaichand give mercy to me? When will all my material desires become insignificant?"

কবে নিত্যানন্দ মোরে করি' দয়া ।
ছাড়াইবে মোর বিষয়ের মায়া ॥

kabe nityananda more kari' daya
chhadaibe mora visayera maya

"When will Nityananda be compassionate to me and relieve me from the mundane illusion?"

Please do not speak. Listen about Nityananda Prabhu—please listen about the glories of Nityananda Prabhu and give Him some happiness and peace. We always want something from the Lord: money, wealth, houses, cars and so on. The Lord gives this to some people, and they forget the Lord—they cannot remember Him anymore. When will Nitai bestow His mercy on us? When will all these desires become nothing for us? We are always anxious to get some trifle plot of land, some trifle amount of money—we sing in a kirtan:

কাম-ক্রোধ আদি ছয় বাটপাড়ে দেয় ভয়
অবসান হৈল আসি বেলা

kama-krodha-adi chaya batapare deya bhaya
avasana haila asi bela

"I am attacked by the six highway robbers lead by kama and krodha, and my life is coming to its end..."

(Sri Gitavali, Sri Siksastaka, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

You were also singing this morning:

কাম, ক্রোধ, লোভ, মোহ, মদ, অভিমান সহ
আপন আপন স্থানে টানে ।
ঐছন আমার মন ফিরে যেন অন্ধজন
সুপথ বিপথ নাহি জানে ॥

kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, abhimana saha
apana apana sthane tane
aichana amara mana phire yena andha jana
supatha vipatha nahi jane

"Lust, anger, greed, illusion, pride, and ego all pull me in their own directions. Thus my mind wanders like a blind man who does not know the right way from the wrong way."

(Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

Our mind is blind—it does not know which is the right way and which is the wrong way. A genuine Guru shows us the right path. And Sri Nityananda Prabhu tells us:

ভজ গৌরাঙ্গ, কহ গৌরাঙ্গ, লহ গৌরাঙ্গের নাম রে
যে জন গৌরাঙ্গ ভজে, সেই আমার প্রাণ রে

bhaja gauranga, kaha gauranga, laha gaurangera nama re
ye jana gauranga bhaje, sei amara prana re

"Worship Gauranga! Say 'Gauranga'! Take Gauranga's Name! Those who worship Gauranga are My heart and soul!"

We must worship Nityananda Prabhu, Gurudev. If we get Nityananda Prabhu's mercy, we will get Gauranga's mercy. Sri Jiva Goswami Prabhu did Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama together with Nityananda Prabhu, and we also should circumambulate holy places in the association of devotees and sadhus. We are able to walk now, but the day will come when we will not be able to walk. So, we must take advantage of the time we have now—we have time now, we can chant the Holy Name, so we should not lose time. When we become very ill with various diseases, when we grow very old, we will not feel taste for chanting the Holy Name. We have time to practise Krishna consciousness now, and we must value this time. Time is passing very fast, it does not wait for anyone. Time and tide wait for none. Day by day, our age is not increasing—it is decreasing. We have to spend half of the time we are alive on sleeping, but how much of the other half of our time do we give to the Lord? It is necessary to sacrifice your life. Atma-nivedan means you must throw your life at the lotus feet of the Lord. You must give yourself to the preaching about the Lord.

Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur said that you can even take a loan to preach about the Lord. When you take a loan, people will keep coming to you and asking you to return their money, and you will have to go out for collection more—you will have to go house to house more. We have arranged for so many facilities to bring people to this path—we make wall calendars, Vaishnav calendars, diaries, books. We print so many books every year: you must regularly study these books at home; if you do that, you will see that you will be able to learn and understand many more things.
