(9/9) Keep Your Focus Straight His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
We have been averse to Lord Krishna since time immemorial – our hearts have been covered with rust and dirt for a very long time. When the proper devotional mood of this line comes to us, you will always feel love in your heart. People will see it and say something, they can say whatever they want. I told you the other day – what is a mother's love like? When Nityananda Prabhu stayed at Srivas Pandit's house, Mahaprabhu asked Srivas Pandit, 'You do not know Him, do you? Where is His house? What is His caste? You have given Him shelter at your home, but do you know anything about Him? You gave shelter to this Man, but He has no house, no family. You do not know anything about Him!' In reply, Srivas Pandit said, 'Prabhu, have You come to test me? I know that You and Nityananda are one but manifest as two. I know that very well.' Then Mahaprabhu said, 'Srivas, I do not have another devotee like you! You have so much faith, you love My Nitai so much!' Mahaprabhu was so happy. You can also remember how milk would flow from the breasts of Srivas Pandit's wife, Malini Devi, when she saw Nityananda Prabhu – and Nityananda Prabhu would drink it. Such was their parental love for Nityananda Prabhu. We must understand these things so that we never try to run away from dangers. We must face and cross over all dangers. No matter what difficulties come, you must never place those difficulties on Gurudev's shoulders. We tend to always want to give every burden to Gurudev, but no, we must want to take burden from him – we must want to give relief to Gurudev and take all burden on our own shoulders. Gurudev engages us as his security guards to take care of his property, and our desire and focus must be to please the Lord. For us to be able to worship the Lord peacefully, we need a building, a security guard, a boundary wall and other things so that no disturbance can come from outside. But we must not become focused on security and walls – our focus must be to please the Lord, to please Krishna. We need all these things for the temple, but we must not live only for that. We must always give priority to pleasing Krishna. That is the main thing, and this is what we must always remember. I told during a lecture recently that when you take birth in a family of a king, you become a prince with entitlement for the throne, and when you take birth in the family of Gurudev, you become entitled to the wealth of your Guru. Gurudev's wealth and property is not buildings, temples, money or cars; his wealth is his divine love, affection and mercy. We must always remember this. You still have time now – practise Krishna consciousness while you still have health. Only chant 'Krishna', 'Krishna' always. I went to one house the day before yesterday. The man in that house is ninety-two years old now, but he has cancer. He does not walk – he sits and chants kirtans. What does he chant? He only chants the Hare Krishna maha-mantra (Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare) and he keeps reciting one sloka:
he krsna karuna-sindho 'O dear Krishna, ocean of mercy, You are the friend of the distressed and the source of creation. You are the master of the cowherdmen and the lover of the gopis, especially Radharani. I offer my respectful obeisances unto You.' I heard that he had seen a doctor and the doctor said that he would not recover, so I came to visit him this year. His wife died some time ago – she was not sick or anything, but she died. I asked the man, 'What pain do you have?' He said, 'My pain is that I could not practise Krishna consciousness earlier.' I asked him, 'Is there anything else?' and he said, 'Yes, I feel pain that my wife left before me.' I told him, 'Do not keep this pain inside you; you must forget it.' He agreed. They both used to come to the temple and donate potato. He is ninety-two years old now... Always practise Krishna consciousness. I will now chant a few kirtans and then will let you all go.
