Nurture Faith and Faithfulness

You must think about it. Scriptures say that the number of human beings is much smaller than insects, trees, etc. So, when human beings come and kill other species, then the balance, the ratio becomes disturbed. Then, now this ratio is getting restored slowly. If some human beings die and the number of animals increases (these human beings die and become animals), then the ratio will be restored. Anyhow, gradually all this will be finished—this whole world and everything in it will be ruined. I saw that in Brazil they set fire and burn so much forest, so many trees. This is not good. You saw also a few years ago they cut the hill, they made a concrete way in Kedarnath (Uttarakhand, near Haridwar) and a huge ashram, a huge hotel, but then one day water came and all buildings, all ashrams, hotels, everything was demolished, but Sivji Maharaj is there—nothing happened to his house.

Therefore, we must think what is our duty. Wherever we stay, wherever we live, we must practise properly, and we must be open-minded. You must tell everything to your Guru with an open mind. Gurudev is the centre of the disciple's heart, and a proper disciple will tell everything to his guru. If you come to a doctor but do not tell him properly what your disease is, the doctor will not be able to give you the proper treatment. In the same way, a disciple will also tell everything to his guru. You only say, "Give me some mercy," "Give me some mercy," but Gurudev always gives you service, and you forget that service—you are always engrossed in family attachment, material attachment and you cannot remember the Lord for one day. "How is it possible to think about the Lord? How can I make Him happy?"—we do not understand it. It is very necessary to understand this. This kind of situation is coming to our life now, how will we overcome it?

All scientists and doctors will give you some medicine, but our proper medicine is chanting the Holy Name and service to our Guru, service to Gauranga. A guru that does not worship Gauranga is a 'maya-guru' (illusory or bogus guru). Service to Guru-Gauranga, service to Gaura-Nityananda is essential for our life. Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He controls everything. Only if we surrender to Him, if we pray to Him, pray to His Lordship, then He can alleviate this situation.

Devotee: Gurudev, how can we serve you from our houses?

You can serve by following my instruction. My instruction is chanting the Holy Name, not to spend time always thinking nonsense things, and to always practise the panchanga (five main devotional practices):

সাধুসঙ্গ, নামকীর্ত্তন, ভাগবতশ্রবণ ।
মথুরাবাস, শ্রীমূর্ত্তির শ্রদ্ধায় সেবন ॥

sadhu-sanga, nama-kirtana, bhagavata-sravana
mathura-vasa, sri-murtira sraddhaya sevana

"One should associate with devotees, chant the Holy Name of the Lord, hear Srimad-Bhagavatam, reside at Mathura and serve holy Deities with faith."

If your guru tells you, "Do this," but you do other things, then how will you increase your spiritual life, how will you progress in your spiritual life? If Gurudev says, if Krishna says in Srimad Bhagavad-gita, "I will protect you," we must believe it, but the problem is that we do not think that way. Gurudev says, "OK, if you follow the rules and regulations, if you follow proper guidance of the guru, you will get to your real home"—if you have the strongest faith, you will get it, but if you have no faith, you will not get it. That is the main thing. Follow the proper instruction.

Actually, we do not know anything, we always think based on our acquired culture (samskar)—we always think from one side, but Gurudev thinks from all sides. Sometimes Gurudev gives me an order, but I do not like it. Suppose I am coming from a certain culture and I eat rice, but if Gurudev tells me, "You must take chapati," then I must take it. We think, "Oh, I do not like it," but if Gurudev tells you that you must take chapati, then I must take it. I may not like something, but I think according to my culture, but Gurudev thinks with my goodwill in mind.
