mukam karoti vachalam pangum langhayate girim "The dumb can speak, the lame can climb a hill—all it takes is mercy from Gurudev." (Bhavartha Dipika) Today is a very auspicious day, we remember this day every year. It is the appearance day of Sri Nrisingha avatar—Sri Nrisinghadev. We all know that there are ten avatars, or incarnations of the Lord—Matsya avatar, Kurma avatar, Varaha avatar, Parasuram avatar, Buddha avatar, Rama avatar, Nrisingha avatar, Vaman avatar, Baladev avatar, and Kalki avatar. These are the ten incarnations of the Lord. Every year we make a big festival for Lord Nrisinghadev, but we could not really make a big festival this year because of the pandemic time, because of the coronavirus pandemic. I was thinking yesterday that I would go to Nrisingha Palli today, and I went there today early in the morning—I paid my obeisance to Lord Nrisinghadev and Gaura Nitai, and come back quickly to Kolkata to meet with you all. On this day, I am also remembering our beloved Gurudev, Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, because he joined Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math on the appearance day of Lord Nrisinghadev. He joined proper Krishna consciousness and came to Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj's lotus feet on this day, that is why I am remembering him very much on this day. Anyhow, I will tell you today something about Nrisinghadev and Prahlad Maharaj, about the teachings of Prahlad Maharaj. Everything is there in Srimad Bhagavatam, in the seventh canto (skandha)—what Prahlad Maharaj teaches us, what Prahlad Maharaj learned from his mother's womb, and what he told his father Hiranyakasipu for the benefit of all jiva souls, for all of us. This is the main teaching of this pastime of Prahlad Maharaj and Nrisinghadev. Lord Nrisingha is Nara-simha, a human body (nara) and a lion body (simha) mixed together. Why does the Lord show us this body, this kind of form? There is much background history. Four-armed Lord Narayan, the holder of sankha (conch), chakra (wheel), gada (club), padma (lotus), comes as Nrisingha. A lion is always angry with a human body—a lion always wants to eat human bodies, but when its baby comes to it, the lion gives its baby much much affection. Similarly, when Nrisingha became very angry and was shouting loudly, at that time Prahlad Maharaj came to Him, and Nrisinghadev became cool when He saw His child. That is the example given in the scriptures, I was reading this sloka today. It is a very nice expression. Anyway, I will discuss this later. Now I want to sing one song and the Dasa-avatara Stotram. Dasa-avatara Stotram is composed by Srila Jayadev Goswami, we will sing it today. [His Divine Grace chants kirtans.]
