(4/5) Life in Remembrance His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
One time, Mahaprabhu slyly asked Srivas Pandit about Nityananda Prabhu to see how much Srivas Pandit loved Him, 'You have given place to Nitai at your house. Be careful! He is a not very reliable fellow.' 'Prabhu,' Srivas answered, 'are You testing me? You love Nityananda so much, so now You have decided to check how much I love Him? Not only that, Srivas Pandit's wife, Sri Malini Devi, took Nityananda Prabhu as her son, and when she saw Him, milk would flow from her breasts! Nityananda Prabhu would drink her milk. One time, a crow stole a pot that Malini Devi used for Deity worship. Malini Devi began to cry, scared that Srivas Pandit would scold her for losing Deities' pot. Then, Nityananda Prabhu came and, seeing her cry asked her, 'Mother, what has happened? Why are you crying?' 'A crow has taken away a pot!' explained Malini Devi. 'Do not worry, Mother. The crow will give it back to you,' replied Nityananda Prabhu. Then, the crow came back, left the pot and flew away. The Lord's pastimes are so wonderful. We must always remember them. Following the whims of your mind is not Krishna consciousness. Krishna consciousness is serving Sri Guru and Vaishnavs in strict adherence to them and pleasing them. 'Kirtana prabhave smarana haibe (কীর্ত্তন-প্রভাবে স্মরণ হইবে): chanting (kirtan) arouses remembrance (smaran).' Even when you are lying down in your room, you should chant kirtans.
নিতাই-পদকমল কোটীচন্দ্র-সুশীতল
nitai-pada-kamala, koti chandra-susitala, 'Cooling like ten million moons, Nitai's lotus feet soothe the world with their shade. O brother! Without Nitai, you cannot reach Radha-Krishna. Firmly grasp Nitai's feet.' (Srila Narottam Das Thakur) Chant kirtans when you are lying down, sitting, eating or doing anything else. When you chant kirtans, you can remember the Lord. When you chant 'Gurudev, krpa bindu diya' or 'Sri-guru-charana-padma', you can always remember Gurudev's face.
