We have taken shelter of our Guru and the Lord, so it is our duty to try to bring to this path the souls averse to the Lord. We have left Maya's family and come to Krishna's family, so we must do everything to please our Guru. Always live chanting the Holy Name – always speak less gramya-katha.

Spiritual life is such that you can be removed from it at any time. If some danger comes and we stop practising, some other things come up in our life and we become removed from Krishna consciousness. When I went to Vrindavan last time, I spoke to one devotee who had left the temple. I told him, 'You have come to the temple because you are an eternal servant of Krishna (jiva nitya krsna-dasa) – you are not a servant for ten, fifteen or twenty years only!'

'কৃষ্ণ-নিত্যদাস'—জীব তাহা ভুলি' গেল ।
এই দোষে মায়া তার গলায় বান্ধিল ॥

'krsna-nitya-dasa'—jiva taha bhuli' gela
ei dose maya tara galaya bandhila

'The jiva soul forgot that it is an eternal servant of Krishna. Because of this mistake, illusion threw its ropes around the soul's neck.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.22.24)

Therefore, you must accept what is favourable and give up what is unfavourable to Krishna consciousness. The problem is that we forget that we are souls, that we are eternal servants of Lord Krishna. As the result, Maya grasps us by the neck.

'কৃষ্ণ-নিত্যদাস'—জীব তাহা ভুলি' গেল ।
এই দোষে মায়া তার গলায় বান্ধিল ॥

'krsna-nitya-dasa'—jiva taha bhuli' gela
ei dose maya tara galaya bandhila

'The jiva soul forgot that it is an eternal servant of Krishna. Because of this mistake, illusion threw its ropes around the soul's neck.'

We must never forget who are (our nitya svarup). We are eternal servants. Never forget this. Do not run after wealth, property, riches – accept whichever way the Lord keeps you.

মায়ারে করিয়া জয় ছাড়ান না যায় ।
সাধুর-গুরুর কৃপা বিনা না দেখি উপায় ॥

mayare kariya jaya chhadana na yaya
sadhur-gurur krpa bina na dekhi upaya

'You cannot conquer illusory environment and become released from it. I see no other way to get relief except by the mercy of saints and Guru.'

We did not come to the temple to be temple managers – if we just can become servants of devotees, that is sufficient. We must not have the ego that we are devotees. Our ego should be that we are servants of devotees. Always remember this. Serve devotees.

Do not worry about your own upkeep. Mahaprabhu told Srivas Pandit, 'You will not go begging from tomorrow,' and Srivas Pandit followed that – he knew no want of anything. The Lord took care of everything.

মারবি রাখবি যো ইচ্ছা তোহারা ।
নিত্যদাস প্রতি তুয়া অধিকারা ॥

marabi rakhabi yo ichchha tohara
nitya-dase prati tuya adhikara

'You may kill me or protect me as You wish. You have full authority over Your eternal servant.'

Everything happens by the will of the Lord. If He wants to kill me, He will kill me, and if He wants to save Me, He will save me. By the will of the Supreme Lord, Lord Brahma creates the entire universe; by the will of the Supreme Lord, Lord Vishnu maintains the entire universe; and by the will of the Supreme Lord, Lord Siva destroys the entire universe – not even one leaf can move on the tree without the will of the Supreme Lord. The Lord always protects His devotees, so always rely on Him.
