Nityananda Prabhu's Mercy His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Sri Nityananda Prabhu is so merciful! It is said about Him in the scriptures:
উত্তম, অধম, কিছু না করে বিচার ।
uttama, adhama, kichhu na kare vichara "Nityananda Prabhu does not consider who is good and who is bad, He saves anyone who falls before Him." (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Adi-lila, 5.208-209) He does not consider whether one is high or low, whether one is born in a noble family or a lowly family, etc. Nityananda Prabhu rescues whoever falls at His feet. Such is His mercy! That is why Mahaprabhu told Him:
শুন শুন নিত্যানন্দ, শুন হরিদাস ।
suna suna nityananda, suna haridasa "Listen, listen, Nityananda! Listen, Haridasa! Make My command known everywhere! Go from house to house and beg from all the residents, 'Please chant Krishna's name, worship Krishna, and practise what Krishna teaches.'" (Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat, 2.13.8-9) "Go house to house and preach about the Lord, about Krishna!" And Nityananda Prabhu went to each and every house, urging everyone:
ভজ গৌরাঙ্গ, কহ গৌরাঙ্গ, লহ গৌরাঙ্গের নাম রে
bhaja gauranga, kaha gauranga, laha gaurangera nama re "Worship Gauranga! Say Gauranga! Take Gauranga's Name! Those who worship Gauranga are My heart and soul!" This is what He preached about everywhere. You have heard that once day, when He came to Madhai Ghat, Madhai hit Him with a clay bottle from wine. When Haridas Thakur told Mahaprabhu the news about it, Mahaprabhu became very angry and, calling His Sudarshan chakra, "Chakra, chakra!", went to the place. When He came, Nityananda Prabhu told him, "Prabhu, You have promised that You would not take up any weapons in Kali-yuga. Do not be angry. Madhai hit Me, but Jagai stood up for Me." After that, Nityananda Prabhu prayed to Mahaprabhu with all His heart, "Prabhu, You have come to rescue this world. I have never asked You for anything, but today I am asking You: please give Me Madhai as alms." Mahaprabhu replied, "Nitai, when You ask for something, I cannot refuse You." Then, Madhai fell at Nityananda Prabhu's feet, and after that Mahaprabhu embraced him. Do you know what kind of service Mahaprabhu gave Madhai? There used to be no bathrooms, so people would pass stool on the bank of the Ganges. So, Mahaprabhu told Madhai to clean the bank of the Ganges. Madhai would take a spade and clean the bank from stool. This is the kind of service he got from Mahaprabhu. That is why that bathing place eventually became known as Madhai Ghat, or Jagai and Madhai Ghat (now the Ganges is dry in that place, the course of the river has changed). This is the meaning of mercy. When you receive service, you receive mercy...
