(11/13) Enter the Land of Faith

[His Divine Grace chuckles] How much people talk! When the Lord takes your mouths away, what will you do then? People yak so much. Everybody always asks, ‘How are you?’, ‘How are you keeping?’, but when you die one day, nobody will ask about it anymore. These are all material talks – talks about this material world… I am a virakta-sannyasi: when I hear such talks, I become annoyed (virakta). Mahaprabhu was a virakta-sannyasi (a strict sannyasi who gets annoyed at anything related to the material world), and I am a virakta-sannyasi, too: I do not like such talks. Mahaprabhu said, ‘Do not talk village talks, do not hear village news. Do not eat fancy food, do not wear fancy clothes. Worship Radha-Krishna in your heart.’

গ্রাম্যকথা না শুনিবে, গ্রাম্যবার্ত্তা না কহিবে ।
ভাল না খাইবে আর ভাল না পরিবে ॥
অমানী মানদ হঞা কৃষ্ণনাম সদা ল'বে ।
ব্রজে রাধাকৃষ্ণ সেবা মানসে করিবে ॥

gramya-katha na sunibe, gramya-varta na kahibe
bhala na khaibe ara bhala na paribe
amani manada hana krsna-nama sada la’be
vraje radha-krsna seva manase karibe

‘Do not listen to village talks, do not speak about village news. Do not eat fancy food, do not wear fancy clothes. Do not expect honour from others, give all respect to others. Always chant the Holy Name of Krishna and serve Radha-Krishna in your mind.’

Criticising others, talking about other people, talking about material news – all this is not good.

পরম করুণ, পহুঁ দুই জন,
নিতাই গৌরচন্দ্র ।
সব অবতার- সার শিরোমণি,
কেবল আনন্দ কন্দ ॥

parama karuna, pahu dui jana,
nitai gaura-chandra
saba avatara- sara siromani,
kevala ananda kanda

‘Nitai and Gaurachandra are two most merciful Lords. They are the best crest-jewels of all incarnations and the root of pure happiness.’

‘Visaya-katha parihari, mukhe bala Gaura-hari (বিষয়কথা পরিহারি মুখে বল গৈরহরি). Give up taking nonsense, give up material talks and only say “Gaura-hari!”’ You must leave material talks.

Srimad Bhagavad-gita says (15.6), ‘Yad gatva na nivartante, tad dhama paramam mama (যদ্­গত্বা ন নিবর্ত্তন্তে তদ্ধাম পরমং মম). If you come to My abode, you will not have to ever return from there; you will be very pleased to be there.’ Once you enter there, you will not have to come back, but the main question is how do you enter there? Talking about the people of this world, Guru Maharaj said that we dilute rice powder in water and drink it thinking it is milk. Do you think you can get the benefit of drinking milk in this way? ‘Srnvantu visve amrtasya putra. You are all sons of nectar!’

Those who are not satisfied with this world become renounced and try to attain liberation. We have many things in this world, but still there is no happiness, is there? We try to practise sadhu-sanga, but there is one very important matter. If you want to develop a proper mood in this good, saintly association, you have to enter the land of faith – in other words, when you practise something, you must have faith. Just as when students study something, they must have faith; otherwise, if they have no faith in their teacher, they will not be able to learn anything. It is necessary to believe, ’What my teacher is saying is correct.’ If you have doubts (‘Is it true or not?’), you will not be able to learn anything. Faith is the main thing for us.
