Mahaprabhu's Private Order His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
(His Divine Grace reads from Sri Nityananda Mahimamrita, 2nd expanded edition.) One day, when They were in Sri Puri Dham, Mahaprabhu called Nityananda and spoke to Him privately. Do you know what He said? After that conversation, Sri Nityananda Prabhu went to Bangladesh and married two daughters of Suryadas Sarakhel, Jahnava and Vasudha, in Kalna. I have told you how it happened. What Mahaprabhu told Sri Nityananda Prabhu privately was this. Mahaprabhu ordered Sri Nityananda Prabhu to marry and preach the Holy Name. Many people say many things, but Sri Nityananda Prabhu did not marry because it was His desire. Many Vaishnav sannyasi look at Sri Nityananda Prabhu's example and get married, but they must know that there is no proof that Sri Nityananda Prabhu was a sannyasi. There was no question of Sri Nityananda Prabhu being a sannyasi or a householder in His time. He is above all these designations. In those days, it was not possible for a sannyasi to mix with public closely, there were many rules and regulations for renounced persons (they could stay in one place, in one village only for one day, not longer than that). Also, many householders did not give respect to those who were not householders. However, Sriman Mahaprabhu wanted the Holy Name to be preached in every corner of the world:
পৃথিবীতে আছে যত নগরাদি গ্রাম
prithivite achhe yata nagaradi grama "My Name will spread to every village and town on this earth." That is why, Mahaprabhu observed the situation and concluded that Sri Nityananda Prabhu had to get married and become an acharya to preach the Holy Name everywhere. It is seen that after Sri Nityananda Prabhu disappeared, Nityananda Prabhu's son, Virachandra Prabhu, flooded the whole of Bangladesh with Nama-sankirtan and that flood ebbed only three centuries later. The account of how Sri Nityananda Prabhu got married is found in Sri Bhakti-ratnakar. Before getting married, Sri Nityananda Prabhu began preaching in Bangladesh. One day, as He was preaching, He came to the house of Sri Suryadas Pandit, the father of Sri Jahnava Devi. Suryadas Pandit's brother, Sri Gauri Das Pandit, was a dear and staunch disciple of Gaura and Nityananda, so Suryadas Pandit helped Sri Nityananda Prabhu in His preaching in every way he could. Sri Nityananda Prabhu would stay at his house and preach from there. It was at that time that Suryadas Pandit gave his daughter, Sri Jahnava Devi, to Sri Nityananda Prabhu, and they got married. In fact, Sri Jahnava Devi is an eternally perfected soul and an associate (female counterpart) of Sri Nityananda Prabhu in His eternal pastimes. It should be noted that there is no mention of Sri Nityananda Prabhu's sannyas-guru anywhere. Sri Madhavendra Puri (the guru of Sri Advaita Acharya and Sri Ishwar Puri) was His diksa-guru.
