Do Not Pass Your Life in Vain

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Lord Nityananda Prabhu's Appearance, morning class
Sri Ekachakra Dham, 25 February 2021, part 2
Translated from Bengali

I have described to you the qualities and glories of Sri Nityananda Ray, I told you what Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami wrote in His glorification.

You all know that we have a temple in Kalna. Before making the temple in Kalna, I went once to the house of Sri Gauri Das Pandit. I did the parikrama of Kalna Dham with a few (foreign) devotees. When we were in Ambika Kalna, Bardhaman District, a man came up to me and called me, "Come here, come," and he showed me a low wooden stool used for marriages saying, "This is Nityananda's marriage stool!" I asked him, "Who made this stool? Where have you heard this? Do you think Nityananda Prabhu's marriage is like any ordinary marriage?" Nityananda Prabhu accepted Jahnava Devi on the order of Mahaprabhu (I told you about it yesterday). After that, He took Vasudha Devi as well. It happened on the same day. You know this story. It was not a wedding as you understand it. Jahnava and Vasudha have been Nityananda Prabhu's sakti for a long time. When Mahaprabhu told Nityananda Prabhu to preach in Gauda-desh, Nityananda Prabhu went to preach in Kalna as well. Mahaprabhu also visited Kalna...

[Clamour in the background among the audience.]

So much racket... People are talking so much! People come to gossip, talk nonsense and do not allow devotees to speak about the Lord. They come to the dham, but they only make dham-aparadh: without knowing it, they are unconsciously making offences. Those who obstruct glorification of Sri Nityananda Prabhu commit dhama-aparadh. If somebody creates obstruction when somebody is talking about the holy dham, about the glory of the dham, it is an offence. There is seva-aparadh, Nama-aparadh, Vaishnav-aparadh, dhama-aparadh. All this is written and explained in our calendars. I have also written in the third volume of Guidance about the hellish suffering—I explain what kinds of hell there are, what suffering living entities undergo there, etc. You have come here, to the holy dham, to earn sukriti—circumambulating this holy dham, glorifying and hearing about the glories of Sri Nityananda Prabhu, you earn some sukriti that will purify your heart. If, on the other hand, you come here and only have idle talks (prajalpa), if you make naughty, if you disturb, then you have come here in vain. You can get money, food, clothes, a place to stay in, etc. at home, so it is not like you come here only for food, room, etc. Each of you lives in a house—you are all proud of the place where you stay and call it "home" ("my house", "my room", "my son", "my wife")—you live comfortably; but you come here and struggle so much, there are thirty people staying in some rooms. If you want this struggle to be worth it, you must take advantage of Hari-katha and kirtan. Practise sravanam and kirtanam.

adau sraddha tatah sadhu-sango 'tha bhajana-kriya
tato 'nartha-nivrttih syat tato nistha ruchis tatah
athasaktis tato bhavas tatah premabhyudanchati
sadhakanam ayam premnah pradurbhave bhavet kramah

"In the beginning there is faith, then good association, then practising life. After that, the offences gradually go away, faith becomes stronger, taste comes, then attachment, then there arises affection and love. This is how love to God comes to those who practise Krsna consciousness."

(Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, 1.4.15-16)

This is how everything gradually comes. If you do not practise sravan and kirtan in sadhu-sanga (saintly association), then your life will pass in vain. If you have any other talks, any other thoughts in your mind, in your heart, then surrender will never come to us. Therefore, I am begging you with folded palms, "One day is left, please do not disturb the class."

Sri Guru's Order
'Wherever you live, you can practise your spiritual life. The main thing is to follow the order of your Guru. When you receive an order from Gurudev, that becomes your duty. Our Rupanuga-sampradaya Guru, he came from the transcendental abode, but when he was here we could not understand that..'

Janama saphala ta'ra
'The birth of one who, by good fortune, has once seen Krishna is successful. Developing the heart's eyes and seeing Krishna, such a soul abandons all delusions.'

The taste for the Holy Name will not come if I have some material desire in my heart.
