দুর্লভ মানব জনম সৎসঙ্গে
তরহ এ ভবসিন্ধু রে

durlabha manava-janama sat-sange
taraha e bhava-sindhu re

"Having attained this rare human birth, cross over the ocean of material existence by associating with sadhus."

This human life is very rare. I always tell you that we have crossed through 8,400,000 species.

জলজা নবলক্ষাণি স্থাবরা লক্ষবিংশতি
কৃময়োরুদ্রসঙ্খকাঃ পক্ষিণাং দশলক্ষনম্
ত্রিংশললক্ষাণি পশবঃ চতুরলক্ষাণি মানুষাঃ

jalaja nava-laksani sthavara laksa-vimsati
krmayo rudra-sankhyakah paksinam dasa-laksanam
trimsal-laksani pasavah chatur-laksani manusah

"There are 900,000 species living in the water. There are also 2,000,000 nonmoving living entities, such as trees and plants. There are also 1,100,000 species of insects and reptiles, and there are 1,000,000 species of birds. As far as quadrupeds are concerned, there are 3,000,000 varieties, and there are 400,000 human species."

We have been born 900,000 times in the water. There are so many living entities living in the water, fish, sharks, whales, crocodiles. We have seen all these species 900,000 times. We have been born 2,000,000 times as trees, hills. You have seen that there are so many kinds of trees in forests and jungles, we do not even know their names. There are 2,000,000 kinds of species living there. We were born 1,100,000 times as insects, bugs, etc. So many bird fly in the sky—we have been born as one of them 1,000,000 times. We have been born 3,000,000 times as all kinds of animals (cows, goats, pigs, sheep, cats, etc.), and 400,000 times as humans. This time we have got this birth in Bharata-bhumi (India), but we do not practise Krishna consciousness—we do not worship the Lord. I have observed today who chants kirtan, who does not chant. You do not get energy to chant the Holy Name because you waste your energy in some other place. Talking gramya-katha, gossiping you are wasting your time.

We prohibit to drink tea, to smoke or eat meat, fish—if somebody takes all these unacceptable, inauspicious things with their mouth, the Holy Name of Lord Krishna will not come to such a mouth. It is said in the scriptures also,

‘কৃষ্ণনাম’ করে অপরাধের বিচার ।
কৃষ্ণ বলিলে অপরাধীর না হয় বিকার ॥

'krsna-nama' kare aparadhera vichara
krsna balile aparadhira na haya vikara

"The Holy Name of Krishna always considers who is an offender. Even if an offender chants the Name of Krishna all the time, it produces no transformation within them."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Adi-lila, 8:24)

The Holy Name judges whether you are an offender or not—the Holy Name does not come to the mouth of an offender. When Mahaprabhu went to Kashi, there was one sanodiya brahman who came to Mahaprabhu and asked, "Prabhu, these people know all Vedas and Vedanta, they know so much, but why does the Holy Name not come to their mouth? What is the reason? They know so many scriptures, they have so much knowledge, but why does the Holy Name not come to their mouth?" Mahaprabhu replied, "The Holy Name does not come to the mouths of offenders. They are offenders of the Holy Name, that is why the Holy Name will never come to their mouths." "Krsna balile aparadhira na haya vikara" means that even if they pronounce the Holy Name, it produces no effect in them.

It is necessary to always chant kirtan. When I stopped chanting kirtan and got into the car, I could still hear it ringing in my ears, "Sachinandan Gaura Hari! Sachinandan Gaura Hari! Nitai Gauranga! Nitai Gauranga!" I felt that I was still singing. Even though I was sitting in the car, I felt I was chanting kirtan.
