When you live at the temple, you cannot be choosy, ‘I will do this, I will not do that.’ Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur gave sannyas to a disciple but later said to him, ‘I am taking off the sannyas cloth I gave you!’ Why? Because he took sannyas from Prabhupad and went to Badarikashram, but he did not go there to preach for Prabhupad. Prabhupad actually took his sannyas back. Gurudev told me about that. It is necessary to have chastity. For example, Mukunda was very good at singing kirtan, but Mahaprabhu called him khar-jhatiya. Why? Because he went everywhere and mixed with everyone.

We do not go everywhere. One time, there was a programme arranged in Uluberia. I could not come, and when I later saw the photos taken during that programme, I told the Lord, ‘O Lord, You have saved me!’ We are not politicians. We do not do politics, so I do not want to go to such programmes. I have my service. If politicians are taking part in a programme, I do not want to go there. Mahaprabhu did not do such things either. Mahaprabhu went door to door chanting the Holy Name. He would go to BJP’s door, He would go to Trinamool’s door, just as He went to Muslims’ doors, Christians’ doors, Buddhists’ doors, Hindus’ doors, mlechhas’ doors, and so on. He did not discriminate where to go and where not to go. He simply told whomever He saw to chant the Holy Name.

উত্তম, অধম, কিছু না করে বিচার ।
যে আগে পড়য়ে, তারে করয়ে নিস্তার ॥

uttama, adhama, kichhu na kare vichara
ye age padaye, tare karaye nistara

‘Nityananda Prabhu does not judge who is good and who is bad: He saves anyone who falls before Him.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.5.208)

Nityananda Prabhu also does not look who is higher, who is lower – He rescues whoever falls at His feet.

We must serve gurudev – we must not use gurudev. If you do something using gurudev’s name, it is bad. Do not do business using gurudev’s name. We have not come here to do business, and we do not want to do other things covering it up with gurudev’s name. We must preach in the same way that gurudev preached, and we must only preach his teachings. That is why we must understand properly, truly what gurudev’s teachings and preaching mood are.
