His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Vyasa Puja Adhivas, Bengali class
10 October 2015, part 7

We must think about what Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur says in his kirtans. He is the seventh Goswami in this world. He has given us so many scriptures, he has given us the Holy Name—the Name that Mahaprabhu spoke about,

harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha

"Only chanting the Holy Name, chanting the Holy Name, chanting the Holy Name—there is no other way, no other way, no other way."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Adi-lila, 7.76)

This Name was chanted in many villages, but with offence, and Bhaktivinod Thakur, holding the current of devotion, preached the pure Holy Name that Mahaprabhu brought to this world just as Maharaj Bhagirath brought the Ganges to this world. He preached in this world through Prabhupad, through our Guru-varga.

We must always think about it.

He has given us the Dham. Now many people travel to Nabadwip, take a rickshaw and go to different places—to Mayapur, Gauranga Setu, etc. It was Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur who discovered all these places:

গৌর আমার যে সব স্থানে
করল ভ্রমণ রঙ্গে ।
সে সব স্থান হেরিব আমি
প্রণয়ি-ভকত-সঙ্গে ॥

gaura amara ye saba sthane
karala bhramana range
se saba sthana heribo ami
pranayi-bhakata-sange

"In the company of loving devotees, I behold all the places my Gaurasundar roamed during His ecstatic Pastimes."

('Suddha-bhakata-charana-renu' by Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur)

Rabindranath Tagore was a Brahma-vadi (he did not believe that God has a form). He opened a university, but he was a mayavadi and did not believe in God. This Rabindranath Tagore said in one of his poems, "What kind of wealth makes you so rich that you dismiss a touchstone? I place your feet on my head desiring a particle of that wealth." He says he prays for that wealth at the Lord's feet—so how is it that the Lord has feet and does not have a head? That is why:

loka dekhana gora bhaja tilaka matra dhari'
gopanete atyachara gora dhare churi

You show the world you serve Gora simply by wearing tilak but secretly you misbehave. Gora will catch you, you thief!

Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 8.7

sadhu paoya kasta bada jivera janiya
sadhu-bhakta-rupe krsna aila nadiya

"Understanding that it is very difficult for a soul to find a sadhu, Krishna came to Nadia in the form of a pure devotee."

(Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 7.8)

Krishna has come to Nadia in form of Gaura to teach the world.

radhara mahima, prema-rasa-sima
jagate janata ke?

"If Gaura had not come, then what would have happened? How would we have maintained our lives? Who would have revealed to the world Radha's glory and the extremes of Her ecstatic divine love?"

(Srila Vasudev Ghosh Thakur)

Odds and Ends
'We live for service. We do not want to die; we want to live for more service. When our service finishes, then Krishna can take us, no problem.'

Gaya Gora madhur svare
'Bound in Maya's net, you work in vain. Now, while you are still conscious, chant 'Radha-Madhava'.'

If you hear what sadhus tell you, what is expressed and exposed to you, and
you start to serve, with love and affection, heart and soul, then first faith will
come, then attachment, then love, and finally devotion will come.
