First Steps in Surrender His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Question: What should we begin our saranagati with? What should be first steps in our saranagati? First steps in saranagati are: be humble and give up, or avoid, your ego. We are servants of the servants of the Vaishnavs, so give up your ego and be humble. These are the main things, and it is also necessary to have some patience. You think you took initiation many years ago, but you cannot see the result in front of you and you lose your patience. You must be always patient, humble, and tolerant. দৈন্য, দয়া, অন্যে মান, প্রতিষ্ঠা বর্জ্জন, dainya, daya, anye mana, pratistha varjana. Dainyata means be humble. Daya means be kind to others. Anye man, give honour to others. And pratistha varjan, give up your pratistha, your name and fame. That is called saranagati, these are the main steps of saranagati.
Question: Gurudev, a devotee is asking a question... The society norm is such that one must get married, and her question is how to 'marry' Krishna? She says she does not want to get married to some usual man, she does not want to live the usual 'normal' life... If she always thinks about Krishna, Krishna will be happy and will fulfil her desire. In Dvapar-yuga, Kubja wanted Krishna to stay one night with her, and Krishna fulfilled her desire—in the Age of Kali, that Kubja became Kashi Mishra and Mahaprabhu stayed in his house for eighteen years. Similarly, Krishna will fulfil her desire. It is not necessary to get married. In this Age of Kali, marriage means sex, but 'marrying' Krishna has nothing to do with sex—it is only transcendental pure love for the Lord. In this Age, marriage, wedding, etc. means people do it for their own benefit—they gratify their their own senses, indriya-tarpan, and get their own happiness. They enjoy, but that enjoyment is not permanent, it is temporary. If, however, you have love or search for pure love for Krishna, then you can get permanent pleasure, and you can enjoy with Krishna.
