Make Lord's Temple In Your Heart

We took initiation but our hopes have not been fulfilled and we become fickle-minded. It is said that atyahara, prayascha, prajalpa, niyamagraha, laulancha, janasangancha must be all given up. "Atyahara" means eating too much. "Prayascha" means accumulating too much (things, money, etc.). "Prajalpa" means talking too much nonsense—it is not necessary to talk about anything except Krishna-katha. "Niyamagraha" means to have no enthusiasm for devotional activities and at the same time to be very enthusiastic to do non-devotional activities. Laulanchya means being fickle-minded, and jana-sanghancha means taking association of non-devotees and not keeping devotees' association. It is necessary to give up all these.

These are called chhaya dosa (six faults). There are also chhaya vega (six urges). These six urges are the urge of the mind (mana-vega), tongue (jihva-vega), belly (udara-vega), genitals (upastha-vega), speech (vakya-vega) and anger (krodha-vega). It is necessary to alway avoid these six urges.

There are ten kinds of offences to the Holy Name, and one of these offences is to sin on the strength of the Holy Name. It means that somebody thinks, "Every day, 364 days a year, I will engage in sins, after that I will just chant the Holy Name and all my sins will be removed in one day!" It is one of the ten offences to the Holy Name. In another way, somebody studies Bhagavatam so that later they can give class and earn money through that. It is also an offence.

Who can conquer your mind? Sadhus can. They can create a temple in your mind. Sadhus do not preach to conquer anybody's mind, they preach to establish a temple in your heart. This is what Prabhupad also did—he made a temple in the hearts of the people. Mahaprabhu said,

পৃথিবীতে আছে যত নগরাদি গ্রাম
সর্ব্বত্র প্রচার হইবে মোর নাম

prthivite achhe yata nagaradi grama
sarvatra prachara haibe mora nama

"My Name must be preached in every town and village!" And Srila Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur said that you must preach about the Holy name in every heart: every heart must chant the Holy Name. If you can preach and at least one person comes to this path, then it is auspicious, then you will get the supreme benefit.

Do you all chant the Holy Name? [Silence.] Why are you not replying? Do you all chant the Holy Name properly? [Silence.] Why are you keeping quiet? [A devotee replies.] Yes, we chant with the body and whether the result comes or not we do not know it. We chant the Holy Name, but only the Lord, only the Guru knows whether it is the Name or not...

অসাধুসঙ্গে ভাই কৃষ্ণনাম নাহি হয় ।

নামাক্ষর বাহিরায় বটে তবু নাম কভু নয় ॥

asadhu-sange bhai krsna-nama nahi haya
namaksara bahiraya bate tabu nama kabhu naya

"Brother, the Name of Krishna never appears in bad association: the letters of the Name may appear, but the Name never does."

(Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 7.1)

Raghunath Das Goswami Prabhu said "Nija-nikata-nivasam dehi Govardhana tvam: please give me a dwelling near you, O Govardhan! I have no capacity to stay on the bank of the Radha Kunda, please keep me near you, O Govardhan"... But now when you go to Vrindavan they ask you for a blanket, especially in winter... Mahaprabhu said,

vrndavane giya na thakiya chira kala
govardhane uthiya na dekhiya gopala

"When you go to Vrindavan, do not stay there for a long time and do not climb the Govardhan Hill to see Gopal."

But some people go there now to earn money...

Weaknesses
'If in this life you think, 'This is my house, I will not leave this house,' then next birth you will become a lizard. Attachment is a very dangerous thing. The kind of attachment you have for your family life should come for your Guru, the Vaishnavs, and Bhagavan.'

'One who very carefully recites aloud this Sri Gurvastakam during the brahma-muhurta (the ninety-six minute period before sunrise) attains direct service to the Lord of Vrindavan at the end of life.'

Even if you live as a brahmachari, you still have to harmonise, still have to tolerate. So many problems come—to stay in a temple permanently is also not easy.
