(12/22) Beyond Illusory World

We have been averse to Lord Krishna for a very long time. We have become covered with rust. If you keep a piece of iron outside, it will become rusty – if you touch it to a magnet, the magnet will not attract it, but if you clean the rust off, the magnet will attract it. Similarly, we have been averse to Krishna since time immemorial – a very long time ago we forgot the Lord – that is why we are suffering now in the agony of three-fold miseries. The only way for us to get relief from this agony is to take shelter at the holy feet of the Lord. We must take shelter at the holy feet of a bona fide guru and practise Krishna consciousness. If you want to reach this attainment, it is necessary to give something, to sacrifice something. There are some rules. If I told you now, 'Do anything you want, eat anything you want,' do you think it works like that? 'Satisfying the whims of your mind is a show of service, it is not service proper (nijera manera kheyala khusi-mato bhajana abhinaya, bhajana bale na; নিজের মনের খেয়াল খুশিমতো ভজন অভিনয়, ভজন বলে না).' We cannot do whatever our minds tell us to do.

We are not tell you to do so many things, you all know the rules and regulations, but you still cannot leave your attachment. I told you yesterday what the rules are. Do you remember them? The first rule is no gambling. If you play cards, dice, chess, buying lottery tickets, etc., it is a waste of time and money. People buy a lottery ticket out of greed for money, win nothing and again buy lottery tickets – little by little, they end up spending all their money and ruining their family. The second rule is no intoxication (smoking cigarettes, bidi, ganja, drinking alcohol or even tea). These things damage health. If you buy a pack of cigarettes, you can see it written there that 'smoking is injurious to your health,' but who worries about it? People still buy cigarettes. Now people are making noise about smoking at bus stands and train stations, so those who smoke smoke secretly or go to the toilet to sit and smoke there. Apart from that, people work hard, earn money and spend it on alcohol, creating disturbance in their families: men beat their sons, their wives. The third rule is illicit sex. It is illicit, you can understand yourself what this is. The fourth rule is no killing (jivahimsa). Krishna resides within every living entity, so do not kill any living entities. You can ask me, 'Oh, but you eat cabbage, cauliflower, is that not killing, too?' What is said in Srimad Bhagavat-gita? Krishna says, 'Everything that is created in this world is created for My pleasure. If you grow something or go to work, earn money and buy something and then offer it to Me for My pleasure, then it will be nirguna (beyond the modes of material nature, free from any reaction).' Suppose you plant a mango tree. You must not think, 'I will eat mangos!' The mangoes that will grow belong to the Lord, so when you get mangos, you must offer them in the Lord's service, to please the Lord, and after the Lord takes them, you can take the Lord's prasad. What is the problem? This is what it means to live in Krishna's family.

At present, we live in Maya's family. That is why we pray, 'Sakti-buddhi-hina, ami ati dina, kare more atmasatha (শক্তিবুদ্ধিহীন আমি অতি দীন কর মোরে আত্মসাথ). O Gurudev, I have no strength, I have no intelligence, please hijack me!' We tell gurudev, 'Gurudev, please hickjack me! I am playing in this illusory world now, but please take me out of here and allow me to enter the family of Krishna. Sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs come to take us out of this illusory world and let us enter Krishna's family.
