His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad

We worship Lord Nrisinghadev, Lord Varahadev or Lord Vamandev, and in the same way we also worship Lord Ramachandra. There is Vaman avatar, Varaha avatar, Parasurama avatar, Bhrigupati avatar, Baladev avatar (Nityananda Prabhu ['Balarama haila Nitai'], or Sankarsan) and other incarnations.

Krishna is actually one, but He manifests Himself in two forms as Krishna and Balaram. In the same way, Gaura is also one, but He manifests Himself in two forms as Gauranga and Nityananda. Then, Mul-Sankarsan comes from Balaram, and after that, from Him come Sankarsan, Vasudev, Aniruddha and Pradyumna. Then, from Aniruddha come Garbhodakasayi, Ksirodakasayi and Karanodakasayi Vishnus. All the ten incarnations of the Lord subsequently come from Karanodakasayi Vishnu. You can find all this described in Srimad Bhagavatam. If you read it, you will see it there.

So, today is a very auspicious day. We should pray to Lord Ramachandra, 'O Lord, wherever You are, please bestow Your mercy upon such lowly fallen souls as us so that we can serve Your Lord, so that we can spend our lives serving You.' This is our prayer to Lord Ramachandra.

In Mahaprabhu's times, there was also one Rama-bhakta, a devotee of Lord Rama. One time he said to Mahaprabhu, feeling perplexed, 'I have sold my head to Rama, but what is this? Prabhu, I used to always chant Lord Rama's Name ("Rama, Rama"), I never even uttered Krishna's Name ("Krishna, Krishna"), but after merely seeing You, Lord Krishna's Name is now coming out of my mouth! How can that be?' Mahaprabhu only said, 'Oh, you must have got Krishna-prema.'

So, today is the holy appearance day of Lord Ramachandra, or Rama-navami as it is commonly called. If you can fast on this day until midday, it is good – try to fast and take prasad at noon.
