(5) Deep Frying

From time to time, I have a took at the political news and sometimes what they say can be used in the Lord's service. What do outside people do? Here is a typical story. A woman suffers so much in her family life – when she gets married and comes to her husband's house, her in-laws torture her so much (they beat her, they scald or sear her body, and so on). Even though she remembers all this torture that happened in her youth, she goes mad to arrange her own son's marriage. After that, a daughter-in-law comes and she starts tormenting the woman, too. Do you know what they do in some houses? If you cannot cook something properly, they dunk a spoon into a kadai with boiling oil and then touch that spoon to your skin! What does all this mean? This is 'jumping out of the frying pan into the fire'.

I read this phrase in today's newspaper; it was used by the chief minister. Out of the frying pan into the fire. We can use this phrase in service. When communists used it, they meant that Trinamool is the frying pan (a kadai full of boiling oil), and BJP is fire, so they are trying to tell people not to vote for BJP. But what I am saying is that this is how the people in this world are. You are suffering in material bondage yourselves as it is and on top of that you force and encourage your wives and children to enter the same suffering. Nobody brings their families to this path. Nobody is even trying to do it. Nobody thinks, 'How can they be brought to this path? How can I help them practise spiritual life so that they could serve Lord Govinda?'

If a father does not try to bring his son to the true path, such a father is not a father! It is necessary to try. You must try to bring your children and all other family members to the right path. You must bring them to this path, you must teach them to take prasad – you must pray for them. This is what is called real care. To live like this, you do not have to leave your home, your wife, your work – you do not have to leave anything; this is a path of an auspicious, pure life. The problem is that people do not understand this. Nobody can understand this...

You can see Vaishnavs' families – both Srila Sridhar Maharaj and our Guru Maharaj had very big families, but they all ended up like that... There was Hiranyakasipu, a demon; his son is Prahlad, a great devotee; but then Prahlad Maharaj's son was Virochan – a demon again...
