(8/8) Nanda Maharaj Meets Vasudev
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
...Assembling at the holy house of Nanda Maharaj, everybody began to bathe baby Krishna with milk, yoghurt, butter and other ingredients to the auspicious sounds made by the gopis. Everybody was so overjoyed that milk, yoghurt and all the other ingredients started to fall everywhere, and they began to rub them on each others' bodies! ...Are you all sleeping? How can you fall asleep hearing such things? You must sleep when it is time to sleep – at night. When you study hard, you cannot even sleep. Most of the days, I stay up until one o'clock at night reading. This is how I studied when I was at school and I still have this habit to study a lot and until late. You must always study. Do you understand? Focus your brains and use them wisely. To be able to do that, you must speak less, do not talk nonsense. Talk less, do more, then you will always have time. Do not waste your time on nonsense. Focus on the main things, and everything will be automatically taken care of. Have you not heard what we were singing today?
তুমি সর্ব্বেশ্বরেশ্বর ব্রজেন্দ্রকুমার ।
tumi sarvesvaresvara vrajendra-kumara 'You are the Lord of Lords, Vrajendra-kumar! By Your will, the creation and annihilation take place in the universe.' (Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur) The Lord is the master, and everything happens by His will. What is there for you to worry about? Why are you worrying so much? Everything happens by His will. ...There were so many dishes cooked at the holy house of Nanda Maharaj to celebrate Lord Krishna's birth. Everybody floated in an ocean of joy and celebrated, and the gopis kept singing Krishna's glories. Nanda Ghosh started distributing clothes and ornaments to all the gopis, gopas, and he also offered special worship to Rohini Devi. Enriched with eight opulences, eight perfections and eight kinds of greatness, the Lord appeared in Gokula out of His own accord – like Lord Narayan, the husband of Laksmi Devi, He made His advent on earth. After that, Nanda Maharaj had to go on business to Mathura. Kamsa was the king, so Nanda Maharaj had to pay some tax to him. Before he left, he kept many cowherd men to keep guard in Gokula. Arriving in Mathura, Nanda Maharaj also very happily met with Vasudev. The two brothers embraced each other joyfully, and then Vasudev clasped Nanda Maharaj's hands and made him sit. Remembering Rama and Krishna, his two sons growing up at Nanda Maharaj's house, Vasudev's heart rejoiced. Although Balaram appeared from Rohini and Krishna from Devaki, They both grew up as sons of Mother Yasoda. Such was the miraculous will of the Lord. Externally, it looked like Mother Yasoda had a miscarriage, but actually the child only became transferred from one womb to another... Vasudev told Nanda Maharaj, 'Brother, you are very fortunate to have got a son at your senior age! Tell me, is everything all right at Gokula? Do you have everything you need?' Nanda Maharaj assured him, 'Yes, there is no lack of anything – there is water, grass, regular rains, so the cows are very happy.' Vasudev then said, 'You looked after Rama, taking so much care of Him, and He always calls you Father. He is just like your son. The very purpose of religious, financial and material prosperity is to make your friends happy, but if you cannot make your friends happy, there is no use having all that wealth...' Nanda Maharaj comforted Vasudev, 'Brother, that awful sinner Kamsa has tortured you so much! He has killed so many of your sons. In the end, you had a daughter, but he took even her away from you – he could not kill her, but he made her disappear. But all auspicious and inauspicious things, all sadness and happiness happen for the same reason – those who are intelligent and can understand that reason do not feel disturbed.' Then, Vasudev told Nanda Maharaj, 'Nanda, listen, you do not have to feel bad for me. Be careful of Kamsa. Do not delay for too long – better you go back home.' Nanda Maharaj listened to his advice and started his journey to Gokula, back home. Jay Sri Nanda Maharaj ki jay. Today is the grand joyous festival of this Nanda Maharaj. We pray for Nanda Maharaj's and Mother Yasoda's mercy. [His Divine Grace then chants kirtan and concludes the class.]
