(5/8) Lord of Lords, God of Gods
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
[His Divine Grace chants 'Sri Guru-charana-padma', 'Sri Krsna Chaitanya Prabhu jive daya', 'Ohe Vaisnava Thakur', 'Nitai-pada-kamala', 'Emana durmati', 'Tumi sarvesvara', 'Sarvasva tomara', 'Jaya Radha-Madhava' and the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.] [While chanting 'Tumi sarvesvara', His Divine Grace stops to remark.]
তুমি সর্ব্বেশ্বরেশ্বর ব্রজেন্দ্রকুমার ।
tumi sarvesvaresvara vrajendra-kumara 'You are the Lord of Lords, Vrajendra-kumar! By Your will, the creation and annihilation take place in the universe.' (Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur) This is said about Lord Krishna: He is the Lord (isvar) of all Lords (sarva-isvara). There are many gods and masters in this world, but He is the Master of all gods and masters. By His wish, everything is created; and by His wish, everything is annihilated. You hear in the news that there are forest fires spanning many miles around that consume so many trees and houses. It happens by the wish of the Lord – He creates such fire. [After the kirtans, His Divine Grace resumes the class.] We spoke yesterday about the appearance of Lord Krishna. [Clamour] Listen careful. Repeat after with me:
হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare So, today is a very auspicious day, it is the anada-mahotsav of Sri Nanda Maharaj. We heard yesterday about how Lord Krishna appeared from Sri Devaki and Vasudev in Kamsa's prison house. From there, Vasudev took Krishna in His arms and carried Him across the tumultuous waters of the Yamuna. There was so much rain and thunder that night, but not a drop of water fell on Lord Krishna's body because Anantadev covered Him and Vasudev with his hoods like an umbrella. In this way, Vasudev tiptoed to the house of Nanda Maharaj with baby Krishna. In the meantime, Mother Yosoda had just given birth to two children, a boy and a girl. She was so exhausted after the delivery that she did not even know who she had given birth to, whether it was a boy or a girl. When Vasudev came to their house, Krishna entered the body of the boy and Vasudev took the girl with him back to Kamsa's prison house. Krishna appeared at midnight, and after a short while the news reached Kamsa that Devaki had had her eighth son. Kamsa had received a divine message from the sky saying that the eighth son of his sister Devaki would kill him, but when he came to the prison, he saw that Devaki's eighth child was a girl! He was surprised, 'What? A girl is going to kill me?! But according to the prophecy, it was to be a boy!' Devaki and Vasudev tried to reason with Kamsa and convince him not to kill the girl because it was a boy who was prophesied to kill him, 'Why will you kill this girl? Do you think that she will ever be able to kill you?' [At first, Kamsa did not listen to them and tried to kill the girl, but the girl went up in the air and disappeared.] Hearing Vasudev's and Devaki's words though, Kamsa's mind softened up, 'Oh, I have done much wrong to you both, I have been keeping you prisoners and behaved like a demon with you. Please forgive me.' Those who are of demoniac nature never feel pain or sympathy for anybody; such people actually live in suffering and pain because they are always scared of death, 'Oh, I can die if I do this!', 'Oh, I can die if this happens!' But those who have faith in the Lord rely on Him, 'Whatever happens happens by His will.' You have heard in the kirtan we were just singing that He is the Lord of all Lords and everything happens by His will. We are born by His will, and we will all die by His will, too. What is there to be afraid of? Anyhow, in the end, after this incident, Kamsa released Devaki and Vasudev...
