(3/10) Do Not Get Blown Away

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Srila Gurudev's Vyasa Puja, Nrisingha Palli
14 December 2019, evening, part 3
Translated from Bengali

Do you know what makes me very sad and gives me pain? You take initiation from Gurudev (you take shelter in Gurudev), but after some time you leave your Gurudev's line and go in another direction.

You have heard about our Gurudev's order from many maharajs today. You can see the video made on 4 December 2009. It was Gurudev's Vyasa Puja (appearance day), and on this day he made a declaration naming me his successor. Not even in my dreams had I thought that I would become an acharya or anything like that. I have never wanted this, I have never wanted all this pratistha. I have always only wanted to do some service to the Lord. I always wanted to expand accommodation for devotees so that they would not have to struggle so much when they come here. This is what I have always been trying to do. I have never had any grand hopes to attain anything big. But there were those who had such hopes, and because they could not get what they wanted, they suffered. I left our Nabadwip Math, and they have taken it, but even having taken it, their threefold suffering did not subside.

I left empty-handed. They were fighting over our Nabadwip temple so much that in the end I said, 'All right, take it. I am leaving.' But are they happy now? If one wants to get something but does not get it, anger comes. They hoped to become acharyas, gurus and all those other things. They had such desires, but I have never had.

So, I feel pain when I see that you leave Sri Gurupadpadma's line and go away. You climb on a roof wall and jump in whichever side you fancy – you follow whichever way the wind blows. Srila Prabhupad told one story, in which he said that we follow whichever way the wind blows. We never go against the wind.

আমার গৌরাঙ্গের ঘাটে উজানখেয়া বয় ।
কড়িপাতি নাহি লাগে অমনি পার হয় ॥

amara gaurangera ghate ujanakheya vaya
kadipati nahi lage amani para haya

'At the ghat of my Gauranga, there is a ferry-boat going upstream without any fee – everyone crosses just like that.'

Do you understand what this means? In every matter, we always try to go against the current... Famous outside poets write, 'Sabara upare manusa satya, tahara upare nai (সবার উপরে মানুষ সত্য, তাহার উপরে নাই). The man is above all, there is nothing above him.' But we say, 'Sabara upare bhagavan satya, tahara upare nai (সবার উপরে ভগবান সত্য, তাহার উপরে নাই). God is above all, there is nothing above Him.' This is the core of our meditation – God is above all, God is in the centre of all.

It is necessary to become strong and have strong chastity. You must always remember this.

There were many problems in Sri Chaitanya Math as well. Srila Prabhupad did not declare any successor acharya, but he indicated, 'Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj will preach in this world after me.' But when Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj saw that they did not want to follow him, that they did not want to follow the right path, he left and went first to Vrindavan. After a while, he heard a message from the sky and came back to Nabadwip. At first, he stayed at Devananda Gaudiya Math – he opened this temple and was its president. But they refused to follow him, so he left that place, too. It was then that he founded Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math in Kolerdanga and started to stay alone in a thatched hut. When our Gurudev came, he preached about him all over the world and expanded the Mission so much. I was only his instrument. Many said that I worked as a mere contractor at the Math. Yes, it is right. I do not have any problem with that. Gurudev gave me money for construction, and I worked as his contractor. I renovated the temple, built guesthouses, developed Govinda Kunda and did many other projects. Gurudev told me what to do, and I worked just like a contractor, fulfilling his order. They know how much blood and heart I have put into all the works. When you hire a contractor, they always cheat you – they use less cement and sand; but I have never done this. It is not my nature to cheat. I risked my life so many times. Sometimes, some works were going on, but Gurudev was not in Nabadwip, so there was no money to continue the works. Still, I never stopped the works. Anyhow I took loans to continue the works, thinking, 'When Gurudev comes back, he will give money.'

So, my only request to you all is please stay in this line. Do not leave this line of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math.

Anything for Guru's Service
You can do anything for the service to your Guru, but for your own self you cannot do any sinful work; but we do just the opposite: for our own happiness we are not afraid to do any sinful work, and we are always afraid to do something for Gurudev.

When one does Krishna kirtan, chants the Holy Name of Krishna,
Krishna's Name, Beauty, Pastimes are all there.
