(7/7) Apply and Comply

Meat (mamsa) means 'me' (mam) and 'he' (se) – in other words, it means when you eat something, later it will come to eat you. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Those who went to school studied this law of physics. Whenever you make some action towards anybody, a reaction must come to you for that. Suppose you kill a goat – the soul that lived in that goat's body will get another body because you cannot slay the soul (if you kill the body the soul lives in, it does no harm to the soul; the soul is indestructible). In some future, that goat will get a human birth, and your human body will become a goat's body, and this or some other human will come to kill you. So, if you kill somebody in this life, somebody will come to kill you in your next life. If you kill a chicken, the soul living in that chicken's body will get a human birth in some future life, and when you die, a body of a chicken will be created from your body, and it will be killed. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Even scientists say this, but we still do not understand it.

Those of you who have not heard about all this before must try to understand and remember these things. Think what you should do.

You spent ten months and ten days in the wombs of your mothers, lying heads down, legs up. Suffering so much, you started calling out to the Lord. When the Lord gave you His darshan, you promised out of despair, 'I will serve You! I will use my eyes to see Your holy Deity! I will use my legs to circumambulate Your holy abode!' But then:

ভজিব বলিয়া এসে সংসার ভিতরে ।
ভুলিয়া রহিলে তুমি অবিদ্যার ভরে ॥

bhajiba baliya ese samsara bhitare
bhuliya rahile tumi avidyara bhare

‘Forgetting that you came to this world saying, “I will serve You,” you carried on living in ignorance.’

You must keep Tulasi at home and do Tulasi parikrama. If you worship Tulasi, if you do Tulasi parikrama, you will get devotion. Only offering incense will not do. Plant Tulasi at home – you can plant her in the ground just like that or, if you have money, make a stone platform and plant her there. Make a place for her and do Tulasi parikrama every day. If you do parikrama of Tulasi Devi, you get the same result as when doing parikrama of Vrindavan Dham. Sometimes for health reasons or due to the financial situation, we do not have the fortune to come to Vrindavan every year. But if you circumambulate Tulasi, you will get the same result as when circumambulating Vrindavan and you can get relief from circumambulating this material world.

We keep coming to this world again and again. At present, we are born in human families, but in another life we can be born in goats' families, cows' families, pigs' families, dogs' or cat's families. We have been born in all those families before and will be born there again in the future. Now we have got a human birth, but if we cannot serve the Lord in this life, we will keep coming and going in this material world again.

কয় বার এলি কয় বার গেলি
তবু তত্ত্ব না শিখিলি ।
নিজের মাথা নিজে খাইলি
এ দোষ দিবি কারে ভাই ?

kaya bara eli kaya bara geli
tabu tattva na sikhili
nijer matha nije khaili
e dosa dibe kare bhai?

‘Coming and going, coming and going, you never learnt anything! You have been eating your own brain – who will you blame for this, brother?’

Leave everything. We are not saying that you must leave your families. Nobody will take your families away. If you take initiation, the Lord will not take your wives and children away from you. 'Leave everything' means you must submit everything at the holy feet of the Lord: 'Dear Lord, everything is Yours, my wife and children belong to You, and I merely live in Your family.' Become members of Krishna's family.

You must apply for membership in Krishna's family. What does it mean? You must come as a beggar and beg, 'Gurudev, please give me mercy – please give me initiation. Please engage me in some service.' For example, if you want to get a job, you send your application again and again until you finally get the job you want. If you send a hundred applications and get rejected, it does not mean that you withdraw your application and just sit at home doing nothing, annoyed, 'I have had enough interviews!' No. It is necessary to have patience and to persevere. You must keep applying. In the same way, to get service of the Lord, you must appeal to gurudev again and again. You must come and ask for initiation. It is necessary to establish a relationship with your guru, then you can reach the Lord.
