(2) Detach Yourself from Mental World

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Preaching programme, morning class
Translated into English from Bengali
15 February 2020, part 2

You must practise Krishna consciousness. If you can practise Krishna consciousness taking shelter of a bona fide guru, you will be benefitted. By constantly staying in sadhu-sanga (by keeping saints' association), the greed that we feel towards some temporary, fleeting interests and because of which we cannot practise Krishna consciousness will go away one day.

If you do not give a tiger or a lion five kg meat, it will start crying, but human beings are endowed with intelligence—they can live without fish, meat, garlic, onion, masoori dal (red lentils). Only those who decide to give up these foods and follow ekadasi can come to this pure line.

There are many gurus roaming this world looking for money (pranami) and worship (pranam). There are many such donation- and obeisance-taking gurus in this world. They will tell you, "Take initiation from me! Eat whatever you want, do whatever your soul desires." The souls does not eat all these things! It is all food for the mind. Do you understand it? All living entities have the same souls, and everyone chooses what to eat according to the state of their mind. For example, your mind likes paneer rasa and does not want to eat stool, but pigs love stool and will not eat paneer rasa. Pigs may like eating meat, fish and excrements, but a mosquito, on the other hand, will not eat meat—it likes sucking blood. If it was up to the soul, then everyone would eat the same things. So, it is the mind that always judges the external world, and if you tell your mind, "I will not eat fish and meat anymore. I will follow ekadasi. I will chant the Holy Name and follow this genuine path," then you will get benefit.

The difficulty is that when we chant the Holy Name, we mostly produce offensive chanting (Nama-aparadha). The practice in this Age of Kali is easy—it is easier than even eating! There is no austerity in chanting the Holy Name with your mouth. So, chant the Holy Name with your mouth and speak less. For example, when you go to the market, you have to ask the price; when you are at home, you have to tell others what to buy. These are necessary things, but do not speak without necessity. If you have children, you have to tell them, "Go there," "Do not go there," it is necessary to say this, but it is not necessary to speak more than that. People go visiting others' houses and sit there, telling each other stories; they go to tea stalls and sit there for half an hour. They finish work in the evening and come home; after that, they go to a shop to drink tea or alcohol, play cards or smoke ganja. This is all bad association. This brings benefit neither to you nor to your family.

Mahaprabhu's Danda and 3.5 Devotees
'Do you know what question they once asked me in Russia in 2002? I was giving the class in the morning and somehow it was mentioned that Mahaprabhu had three and a half close devotees..'

We are not separate, we are together.
