[His Divine Grace chants 'Samsara davanala', 'Sri Guru-charana-padma', 'Sri Krsna Chaitanya Prabhu jive daya kari', 'Jiva jago', 'E-bara karuna kara', 'Kabe Sri Chaitanya more karibena daya'.]

You must chant kirtans. I have told you many times: we have a small kirtan book, it is not expensive—take it with you, you will find almost all kirtans in it. Unless you understand the meaning of these kirtans, you cannot practise Krishna consciousness. Always remember these kirtans.

We pray to Vaishnavs, "Please take me with you (krpa kari' sange laha ei akinchane)." It is necessary to say this from within your heart. "O Lord! I am very poor and mean, please take me with you!" We have become enamoured with and bound by the material world, but we should pray, "O Vaishnav Thakur, I have no qualification, there is nothing good in me (there are only bad qualities in me), but you are very merciful—you are the rescuer of the fallen, and I am a mean fallen soul—please take me with you. I want to stay with you..." It is necessary to say this sincerely, from the heart, not just externally, in a lip-deep way.

Always remember these kirtans. Always hanker, "When will Vaishnav Thakur bestow his mercy on me?" If we take shelter in Sri Guru and Vaishnavs, we will get benefit—we will find the true path. There is no use taking initiation at non-vaishnavs' feet because it will not give you any result. Even if Gurudev leaves his body, you must take instruction from pure Vaishnavs. [His Divine Grace reiterates in English.] If somebody's Guru expires, entering his nitya-lila in Goloka, Vrindavan, the person must learn from a great Vaishnav, accepting this Vaishnav as their siksa-guru. Take shelter of a bona fide guru, of an eternal Vaishnav (nitya-vaisnav), and practise properly.

If you chant kirtans all the time, eternally, then some feeling will awaken within your heart. The highest service is Hari-kirtan: listening to Hari-katha and speaking Hari-katha. Many practise their spiritual life in solitude. It is not bad, but such secluded practice brings benefit only to the person who is practising it. However, those who practise together with others rescue other mean, fallen souls. For example, if I go to Vrindavan and sit alone, chanting, "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna", I will get some benefit—I will pursue my own interest and goals; but if I wander village to village together with everyone else and can speak some Hari-katha to you all, then you will get some benefit through that. Is it not so? That is why it is said that there is a difference between kirtan and sankirtan (individual and congregational chanting).

What is the use if we come to chant and you sit quietly? You must chant kirtans. I gave you books one year ago, but I can see that you have not been chanting. What is the use chanting only once a year? If you think it is all right to do so, then you can also eat once a year only. Can you live if you eat only once a year? If you fast for some two hours, your stomach will start growling, and you will not even be able to walk. So, just as you eat every day, you must chant kirtan every day, eternally.

[His Divine Grace resumes chanting, singing 'Nitai-pada-kamala', 'Emona durmati' and the Hare Krishna maha-mantra before starting the class.]

Rupa Sanatan:
Running Away
'Rupa Goswami left his job tactfully—he made some mistakes in the accounts and the king told him it was not necessary for him to do the job any more. Shortly after that, all of a sudden Sanatan Goswami left the job without giving any notice to the king..'

Pure devotees serve only for the happiness of the Lord.
