(6/10) Connection with the Transcendental His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Many people think that there is no God or anything like that in the world. Such people do not believe in God, they are atheists. But when they grow old, when they fall ill and get into hospital, then they think, "O God, please take care of me." Who is stirring them from within? If you say in distress, "O God, please..." it means that there is someone out there who is beyond the reach of your senses. Not everybody can see Him because not everybody has the eyes to see Him, but the Lord is always there—He is always present, beyond the reach of our senses. He is everywhere, but we cannot grasp it. We are the Lord's lost children, and He is looking for us—that is why He sends His dear associates:
তব নিজ-জন কোন মহাজনে
tava nija-jana kona mahajane "You have sent a great soul, Your associate (to rescue me)."
(ek bar) daya kari' more patita dekhiya Seeing me so fallen and being merciful, he came to me and said, “O humble soul, listen to this wonderful message and your heart will rejoice.
tomare tarite sri-krsna-chaitanya "Sri Krishna Chaitanya has appeared in Nabadwip to deliver you. He has brought many humble souls just like you to the shore of the ocean of material existence." (Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur, Saranagati) I have also come here to invite you all for Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama. Please come, please do not this parikrama together with devotees. A holy place is wherever there is a Vaishnav (yatha Vaisnava tatha tirtha; Sri Kalyan-kalpataru, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur). You go to Goa and Darjeeling for sight-seeing and eye-exercise; you go to Puri with your children to swim in the ocean. No matter how much you travel like this, it will never give you anything.
tirtha-yatra parisrama kevala manera bhrama "The trouble of visiting holy places is simply a mental delusion—all possible perfection is the feet of Govinda." (Srila Narottam Das Thakur, "Anya-abhilasa chhadi...") If you can submit everything at the holy feet of Lord Govinda, you can attain everything. There is no other way. Otherwise, you can chant the Holy Name of the Lord so much—if you go village to village, you can see that there are many Names of the Lord—but does it produce any difference? Does anyone become transformed by chanting these Names? Why not? Suppose you take a glass and start filling it with water—you keep pouring more and more water, but you see that the glass does not get full. Why? Because there are holes in this glass, and all water flows out. In the same way, we have some faults—there are some offences in us, and all the result of our practice or worship comes out through the holes of these offences. These holes are offences to the Holy Name (Nama-aparadha), offences to the holy place (Dhama-aparadha), offences to devotees (Vaishnav-aparadha), offences to the service of the Lord (seva-aparadha) and offences to the Holy Name of the Lord (Nama-aparadha). You can be doing so much service, so much service, but lo and behold! where has the Lord gone? That is why, we pray:
সাধুসঙ্গে কৃষ্ণনামে—এই মাত্র চাই ।
sadhu-sange krsna-nama—ei matra chai "I desire only to chant the Name of Krishna in the association of sadhus. There is no other way to conquer this material world." (Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 6.13, Sri Jagadananda Pandit) We must chant the Holy Name in the association of sadhus. You must always remember this.
