(4/13) Ignore and Avoid Misconception

Actually, problems always come. Sometimes, some domestic problems come, but we must avoid, or ignore, that. Always ignore it. Do you understand? We should not get involved in politics. We must always be servants of devotees. That is our main vision. I read yesterday a chapter written by Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj called 'Krishna consciousness vs. Society consciousness'. So, sometimes, we have to tolerate everything.

We must be proper disciples of Gurudev. This is the main thing for us. What is the duty of a proper disciple? I have told many times that you may take initiation from a guru, but it means that you have got admission to Gurudev's school or institution – it does not mean you have passed the final exam. Getting initiation is only getting admission; after that, it is necessary to practise properly and get proper education – it is necessary to follow rules and regulations properly. Misconception and conception cannot go together.

Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur said that we must never associate with any of the thirteen apa-sampradayas (movements preaching misconception): aul, baul, kartabhaja, nera, darvesh, sani, sahajiya, sakhibekhi, smarta, jata gosai, atibari, churadhari, gauranga-nagari. At that time, there were thirteen apa-sampradayas, but now there are, perhaps, thirteen thousand of them. Misconception is increasing more and more. Before, there was only one kind of sahajiyas, but now, there are so many types of mayavadi and sahajiya conceptions. Misconception is spreading throughout many countries like the coronavirus.

Our duty is to serve devotees, serve our Gurudev and guru-varga. We must give proper honour and respect to our guru-varga. If you give respect to our guru-varga, you will get respect too. You will be a gainer – you will not lose anything. You do not lose anything by giving respect to others. But the problem is our ego. Our ego is what creates many problems.

Lalita Prasad also had this kind of ego. Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur had many sons, among whom were Lalita Prasad and Bimala Prasad (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur). (Lalita Prasad's lineage is still taking care of Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur's birthplace near Krishnanagar; it is located in the Ula village, Birnagar). Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur wrote to Lalita Prasad, 'Baba badha Radha.' 'Baba' means 'father'. Lalita Prasad thought that Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur was his father, but Bimala Prasad (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur) thought, 'Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur is not just my father. He is an associate of Sriman Mahaprabhu. He is a great personality, my guru!' But Sri Lalita Prasad thought, 'He is my father. He has made many temples, so I must get some share of it.' Bimala Prasad had many followers, and Lalita Prasad was jealous of that ('Why must he get so much honour? I am also Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur's son, just like Bimala Prasad.'). This is when Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur wrote to him, 'Baba badha Radha. Because you are thinking that Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur is your father (baba), it prevents (badha) you from getting the sweet nectar of the service to Sri Radharani's associate (Radhapadamrita). You think that Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur is just your father, but I think that he is not just my father – I think that he is my guru and an associate of Sriman Gauranga Mahaprabhu.'

Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj also had many disciples and many scholarly disciples also, but he chose our Gurudev. You know that Gurudev was staying as a householder in Kolkata, and Srila Sridhar Maharaj even wanted to break his temple. He told Gurudev, 'If you do not take the responsibility for Chaitanya Saraswat Math, I will break the temple and give the Deities (Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharva Govindasundar) to my godbrothers.' Srila Gurudev still did not come to take sannyas and join the temple full-time. So, finally, in 1985, Srila Sridhar Maharaj told him, 'If you do not take sannyas and do not take charge of Chaitanya Saraswat Math, I will commit suicide and you will be held responsible for it!' That is why Gurudev took sannyas. He personally told this to me. So, Srila Sridhar Maharaj understood who knew and could preach his conception – it is Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj. That is why he gave everything to his hand.
