(5/9) Nimai's Mercy to Devotees

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj's Vyasa Puja Adhivas
Nrisingha Palli, 31 December 2020, morning, part 5

Have you see Sridhar Prabhu's house in Mayapur? It is a small house – Chaitanya Math has made a small hut there. I wrote about that place in Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya-mukta-mala. Please get this book. Both Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu visited Sridhar Prabhu. Nityananda Prabhu went there together with Srila Jiva Goswami.

One time, when Mahaprabhu came to Sridhar Prabhu's house, He asked him for some water.

'Can you give Me some water?' Mahaprabhu asked.

'Prabhu,' Sridhar replied, 'I do not have any glass to give you water.'

'What do you drink from then?'

'Well, that clay glass has a hole in it...'

'It is fine, give Me some water in it.'

Taking the glass, Mahaprabhu closed the hole at the bottom with His finger and drank some water. He bestowed His mercy upon His devotees... It was to bestow mercy upon devotees that He went door to door.

When Mahaprabhu was only three and a half years old, a brahman came to His parents' house. Many say that it was Madhavendra Puri, but the name of that brahman is not mentioned anywhere. That is what people say nowadays... Anyhow, a brahman came to their house and asked Sachi Mata, 'O Mother, can you give me some alms?'

'I will give you some, but it is already after ten o'clock (all prasad has finished). It would be a great fortune for us if you could cook something and take prasad at our house,' Sachi Mata replied.

The brahman agreed. 'All right, I will cook something at your house, offer it to the Lord and take prasad.'

Then, the brahman cooked whatever was there in the house (some dal, rice, vegetables). Sachi Mata helped him to cut the vegetables. After the cooking was done, the brahman went to offer the bhog to the Deities at the right time. When he entered the temple room, he sat on the asan in the front of the Deity of Lord Krishna to offer Him worship. At that time, Nimai was a small boy of only three and a half years. Suddenly, Nimai came there, took a handful of rice from the plate and started eating it. The brahman was shocked, 'What are You doing?! Do You not know anything?! This is the Lord's bhoga.' Hearing the brahman shout, Sachi Mata and Jagannath Misra ran to the temple room.

'What has happened?' they asked.

'This naughty boy came and spoilt the Lord's bhoga! He has eaten it! I cannot offer it like that, I will have to cook again then...'

'This has never happened before,' said Sachi Mata. 'Yes, please cook again...'

The brahman cooked again and by the time he finished, it was already evening. He came to the Deity's room and prayed, 'O Lord, it is late, I could not offer you bhoga timely.' Before offering the bhoga again, he looked around to see if Nimai had come again or not. In the meantime, Jagannath Misra also stood outside with a stick in his hand, guarding the room. Nimai was not anywhere around, so the brahman started reciting the mantras to offer the bhoga to the Deity. Suddenly, Nimai has come again out of nowhere! The brahman scolded Him again and Nimai fled from the house. Getting very angry, Jagannath Misra ran after Him. Nimai ran to a house nearby and, shivering, clasped the lady who lived there, 'Please help me! My father is running to beat Me!' After a while, Nimai came back home. Everybody was upset, 'We could not cook for the Lord today. A guest has come to our house and cooked twice but could not offer the bhoga. He could not take any prasad...'

Then, Visvarup (Nimai's elder brother) came home.

'Why is there so much disturbance at home? What has happened?' he asked.

'I have offered bhoga twice, and your small brother Nimai spoilt it both times!' the brahman explained.

'Oh, I see. I am His elder brother, and He is scared of me. Cook again and do not worry, I will watch Him,' Visvarup promised.

The brahman cooked again and went to offer that bhoga late at night. He called out to the Lord, 'O Lord! I have made an offence. I have not been able to offer You bhoga twice today.' Then, he closed his eyes and, meditating on the Lord, recited the mantras. He called the Lord, and the Lord came of course – He cleared the whole plate (ate everything that was there on it). When the brahman opened his eyes, he saw that Nimai had come and eaten everything.

'You again?!' the brahman cried.

'Dear sadhu, why do you keep calling Me? I was sleeping in My mother's lap, but you called Me and I had to come. I woke up and felt hungry, that is why I have eaten everything.'

'Why would I call You?!'

'Who did you call then?'

'I was calling out to the Lord, to the Deity,' the brahman replied.

Then, Nimai showed His four-armed form. He appeared in front of the brahman holding a conch, a disk, a club and a lotus. 'See now? I have shown you this form, but do not tell anyone about it. I gave you My darshan in Satya-yuga, Treta-yuga, Dvapar-yuga and now too, but do not tell anyone about it.'

The brahman left the house without saying anything to anybody and nobody ever saw him again. 'Where did he go? What has happened? Nimai has been sleeping all this time, why has he left?' There was no trace of that brahman found anywhere.

There are so many pastimes Nimai performed in this world...

Sanatan-siksa: Power Transmission
'When a devotee surrenders fully and practises Krishna consciousness properly, Krishna gives them whatever virtues or good qualities He has. This is called power transmission.'

If somebody has 90% bad quality and only 10% good quality, you must take
that 10% good quality and use it for service.
