(6/9) Remember Lord's Mercy His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Nimai rescued many souls, even Keshav Kashmiri (Digvijayi Pandit) and two thieves. The Lord is so merciful that He bestows His mercy even upon thieves. He was very small at that time. Everyone gave Sachi Mata and Jagannath Misra many gifts for Him. So, one time, when Nimai was wearing golden bracelets, necklaces, and so on, two thieves saw Him and thought to themselves, 'We are in dire need here. Let us entice this boy with some sweets and take Him far away from His home – then we can take off all His jewellery.' One of the thieves picked Nimai up and carried Him away on his shoulder. On the way, one thief said, 'I will take the bracelets from His hands.' The other one said, 'And I will take His ankle bells!' They started dividing who gets what. They carried on walking to their home, but they could not find the way! They had been walking the whole day in this way. In the meantime, back at Nimai's home, everybody became alert that Nimai was missing. Everyone began to cry loudly. 'Where is Nimai? Who has taken Him away? Who has kidnapped Him?!' The thieves kept walking and walking and suddenly found themselves among the crowd of people at Nimai's house. 'What is this? We have come to His house again!' Then, they put Nimai down and quickly went away. Seeing her son, Sachi Mata grabbed Him and cried, 'Who has brought My son? I want to reward them!' But nobody came forward. Nimai had bestowed His mercy onto those theives – He allowed them to touch Him and carry Him on their shoulders... Later, when Nimai was seventeen years old, He taught Sanskrit grammar. One day, Keshav Kashmiri, a great scholar who had conquered all great scholars of Kashmir and Kashi, came to Nabadwip. Nabadwip was famous as the seat of knowledge (vidya-pitha) and was often called the 'Oxford of India'. People would come there from all over the world to obtain knowledge. Being a worshipper of Saraswati, Keshav Kashmiri had got a boon from her that nobody in this world would be able to defeat him. But he was defeated by Mahaprabhu. When that happened, Keshav Kashmiri had a dream in which Saraswati Devi told him, 'Do not cry. He who you were defeated by today and who has taught you a lesson today is actually my Lord, my husband.' In this way Mahaprabhu rescued Digvijayi Pandit. We must always remember the mercy of the Lord...
