(8/9) Imperishable Truths His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Continue practising Krishna consciousness. Do not forget the Lord! He is the one who has sent us to this world. When I was registering the land, I was asked, 'What is your father's name?' The father he was asking about only gave me a body – he did not give me that which I am. In all my documents, my father's name is Gurudev's name. When somebody asked me, 'Are you Gurudev's son?' I said, 'Yes, I am his son.' That is how I am related to Gurudev. 'Did he give you birth then?' I said, 'Yes, there is a gentleman who gave me birth.' In English, this gentleman is called a biological father. He gives me a material body, but he did not give me that which I am (my soul). The man who was asking me all those questions was taken aback, thinking, 'What is this man saying?' Biological parents give us bodies, but actually the Lord gives us the soul, and He can also take it away – nobody will be able to stop it. This body is perishable: we come one day to this world, and one day we will have to leave this body and go away – our soul will get another body. But if we can practise Krishna consciousness genuinely, then we can reach the Lord. Whatever place there is for us there, we will be able to reach it, and once you come there, you do not have to return. In that abode, there are bhakti-kalpa-vriksa (trees that can fulfil devotional desires) and surabhi cows whom you do not need to milk: if you come to a surabhi cow and ask, 'Give me ten litres of milk,' she will give it to you. There, if you come to a banana tree and ask it for a mango, it will give you a mango. Such is the place where the Lord resides eternally. It is not within these fourteen material worlds comprising heaven, earth and hell. The fourteen worlds are Bhur, Bhuvar, Svar, Maha, Jana, Tapa, Satya; Atal, Vital, Sutal, Talatal, Mahatal, Rasatal, Patal, but there is another world that is beyond these planets – that world is called Vaikuntha. When you cross the Viraja River, you get to Paravyoma, and then Goloka Vrindavan. One foreign devotee asked me recently, 'Where does Paramatma live? We know that Paramatma is part of the Lord, and the duty of the soul is to serve Paramatma. Does Paramatma live in Goloka Vrindavan?' I said no. Paramatma has nothing to do in Goloka Vrindavan. Paramatma lives in the external (material) world. They also asked me, 'What is the duty of the mind and the soul? Is mind the same as soul?' No, they are not the same. The mind lives in the external world, and the soul lives in the internal world. I have written all these things in my books – Guidance, Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4 have come out. Read them. Foreign devotees study and ask questions. Even ten–twelve-year-old and eight-year-old boys and girls who took initiation study, read books and ask questions. The other day, a seven-year-old girl asked me, 'Gurudev, when I put on tilak, my mom says that I must not use my index finger. Why cannot I use it?' They ask such big questions, and I have to answer them to satisfy them and make them happy. We always use our ring finger to apply tilak, and it never occurs to us to ask why, but they ask such questions. Western children ask very nice questions. I like it. Devotee: Why is the index finger not used? Because it is used when you shout at others – it is considered rude to point it at others. When people get angry, they point their index finger at the person they are angry with. You can see that politicians always show their index finger. They are all liars, arguing all the time about each other. One person says, 'You are a thief!' and the other person says, 'No, you are a thief!' If you watch the news on TV or read newspapers, you can see that everything they write or say is lies. All the news are lies. This is mukharochok (মুখরোচক, pleasant to taste). Does any newspaper ever print anything about the Holy Name or the Lord? Never. Devotees are chanting the Holy Name, talk about the Lord, about Krishna, there is class and kirtan – do newspapers print anything about it? They do not. They only print news when something bad happens.
