Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's Line His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Sridhar Maharaj glorified Sriman Nityananda Prabhu in his poem Nityananda Dvadasakam. Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur composed Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat where he profusely glorified Sriman Nityananda Prabhu. Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami expressed Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's glorification in Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita. Advaita Prahbu also sang Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's stuti (glorification). Even Sriman Mahaprabhu Himself glorified Sriman Nityananda Prabhu. You know about it. So many nice things are told about Sriman Nityananda Prabhu. Mahaprabhu said to the effect, "If you worship Nityananda Prabhu, it is the same as worshipping Me, but if you worship Nityananda Prabhu, I am pleased by that more than by anything else." This Sriman Nityananda Prabhu in turn says, "You can buy Me if you worship Gauranga!" Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur composed Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat, and there he very nicely described Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's glorification. Moreover, Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami says, "By the mercy of Nityananda Prabhu, I have got Vrindavan, I have got Rupa, Sanatan, Jiva Goswami, Raghunath Das Goswami—I have got the mercy of every great Vaishnav by the mercy of Nityananda Prabhu!" Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami was born and lived most of his life in Jhamatpur Baharan. This place is situated a little far from Nabadwip—it is two stations after Katwa, the place where Mahaprabhu took sannyas. One time, Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami's brother arranged some kirtan at their house and he engaged a brahman named Gunarnav Misra to do the puja. In the meantime, a servant of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu named Ramdas Minaketan came to their house, but Gunarnav Misra showed no respect to him—everybody treated Ramdas Minaketan respectfully except for Gunarnav Misra. Understanding that Gunarnav Misra did not like him because he was a servant of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu, Ramdas Minaketan was quite unhappy. Later, he spoke to Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami saying, "What is your brother doing?! This is ardha-kukkuti nyaya (half-hen logic)! He worships Gauranga, but he does not worship Nityananda! What is this? It is not good for him!" Later, Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami chastised and quarreled with his brother—he told him straight, "What are you doing? You are doing wrong! You have arranged some kirtan where Nityananda Prabhu is not respected! It is not good. What you are doing is all bogus! You say you obey Gauranga, but you do not obey Nityananda. It is not good for your life." Later in the night, Nityananda Prabhu Himself came to Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami in a dream and said, "Krishna das, wake up, wake up! Come to Vrindavan, do not stay here in Jhamatpur with your brother. His association is bad." In the morning, Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami left his home and went to Vrindavan despite his old age. It was there, in Vrindavan, that he composed Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita. As you know, at the end of each and every chapter he famously wrote,
sri-rupa-raghunatha-pade yara asa "Always desiring the lotus feet of Sri Rupa and Raghunath, Krishna Das is narrating this Chaitanya-charitamrita." There are so many pastimes related to Sriman Nityananda Prabhu... Another time, a brahman came to Mahaprabhu and started criticising Sriman Nityananda Prabhu. Mahaprabhu stopped him and said, "Listen, brahman. Even if Nityananda Prabhu takes a Muslim woman and drinks alcohol, He is still worshippable—even Lord Brahma will worship Him! Go and tell all citizens of Nabadwip what I have told you about Nityananda Prabhu!" Later, following the advice of Mahaprabhu, Sriman Nityananda Prabhu accepted Jahnava Devi and Vasudha Devi. They were both His sakti before—this is not like the mundane married life that we know of. They were daughters of Gauri Das Pandit's brother Surya Das Sarkhel from Kalna. Nityananda Prabhu accepted his two daughters, Jahnava and Vasudha, as His wives, but they are His sakti even before that. Nobody knows how or when Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's disappeared—nobody know where He went bodily. He finished His lila and left. After that, Jahnava Devi continued Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's line. Vasudha Devi had a son named Virachandra Prabhu. Virachandra Prabhu took initiation from Jahnava Devi (she accepted disciples), and when Jahnava Devi finally went to Vrindavan, Viracahnara Prabhu held and carried Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's line. This is how this line continued. Not only that, we say that the village where Nityananda Prabhu was born is Ekachakra Dham, but it is actually officially known as Virachandrapur...
