His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Siliguri, 20 May 2017, Bengali class, part 8

There was a rule that nobody was allowed to touch Mahaprabhu's feet. When Kalidas touched Mahaprabhu's feet with his both hands, devotees rushed to him, "What are you doing?" but Mahaprabhu said, "Do not stop him. He took prasad of all Gaudiya Vaishnavs!" When Vaishnavs were taking prasad, Kalidas did not sit with them, but when they would throw their plates, he would come and eat the remnants from those plates. This is how he got mercy of the Vaishnavs—by taking their prasad.

It is necessary to learn what the teachings of Mahaprabhu is and accept it. "Cheto-darpana-marjanam..."—Mahaprabhu came to this world to awaken the consciousness of the jiva souls... Our hearts are covered by maya (illusory environment), and Mahaprabhu came to rescue us from that maya. After Mahaprabhu, Nayana Manjari came in the form of Srila Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur, and he preserved and presented the teachings of Mahaprabhu in a very sweet way.

তব নিজ-জন, প্রসাদ সেবিয়া
উচ্ছিষ্ট রাখিবে যাহা ।
আমার ভোজন পরম-আনন্দে
প্রতিদিন হবে তাহা ॥

tava nija-jana, prasada seviya,
uchchhista rakhibe yaha
amara bhojana, parama-anande,
prati-dina habe taha

"Whatever remnants Your devotees leave behind after honouring Your prasad I will eat every day with great joy."

(Saranagati, 19.3)

What Srila Prabhupad taught is all there in Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur's kirtans.

বার্দ্ধক্যে এখন উপায় বিহীন
তা'তে দীন অকিঞ্চন ।

vardhakye ekhana upaya-vihina
ta'te dina akinchana

"Now aged, I am devoid of any means of deliverance and thus destitute and distressed."

(Saranagati, 5.6)

বৃদ্ধকাল আওল, সব সুখ ভাগল,
পীড়াবশে হইনু কাতর ।

vrddha-kala aola, saba sukha bhagala,
pida-vase ha-inu katara

"Then old age came, and all happiness fled. Subjugated by disease, I became distressed."

(Saranagati, 6.3)

People in this world say, "When I get old, then I will think about God", "When I get old, I will chant", "When I get old, I will follow Ekadasi," and so on. They do not know that if you take grains on Ekadasi, you commit the same sin as when you kill your father, mother, brahman, Guru—all sin is there. People hear this but still they do not follow Ekadasi.

The scriptures say that in this world the number of insects, beasts, birds is very large, and the number of human beings is very small. Some people say they follow the Vedas, but at the same time they do what is prohibited by the Vedas. They say, "Karma is the highest," but then it is said that among millions of karmis (fruitive workers), there is one jnani (wise person), among millions of jnanis there is one liberated soul, and among millions of such liberated souls there is one devotee of Krishna. A devotee of Krishna is very rare, but one devotee is capable of delivering the entire universe.

Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu: The All-Rounder
'Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu did everything alone—he cooked, did puja, cleaned the temple, brought water from the Yamuna, and also did personal service to his Guru. He was busy with his service from morning to night, and did everything alone.'

Ei-bara karuna kara
'If anyone comes to you, their sins go away. Where can such a merciful master be found?'

Kaliya-daman means Krishna has beaten some snake, but He did not just beat him—He
demolished his ego... We all have so much ego, and we have to demolish that.
