(10/11) Seek Soul's Fulfilment

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Ekachakra Dham, evening class
15 February 2019, part 10
Translated from Bengali

To be able to know what service is, it is necessary to first know your actual identity. 'Who am I?' – you must know it. We think that the soul and the mind are one and the same, but it is not so. The mind and the soul are not the same. Remember this.

The mind and the soul are not the same. Eyes, ears, nose, skin, tongue, mind, intelligence, etc. are senses. The mind judges the external world, and the soul lives on the internal plane. In this external world, people often explain, 'Eat whatever your soul wants.' But the soul is a particle of the Lord – what does the soul want? The soul wants to serve Paramatma (the Supersoul), and the soul knows what the Lord wants – the mind does not know it. The soul is a particle of the Lord, but the mind is not (the mind is not related to the Lord). What does the mind know? It wants to do something – it wants to do bad things (vikarma), good things (sukarma) or do nothing (vikarma). These are all desires of the mind.

We are interested in neither action (karma) nor renunciation of action (tyaga). Karmis live for fulfilling their desires and satisfying their senses, and tyagis throw the Lord's property away – they deprive of service all the things that are meant for the Lord's service. Everything that is created in this world is meant for the service to the Lord. So, when renounced people throw aside things, they do not allow them to serve the Lord. Is that right? Another name for such renunciates is mayavadi (impersonalists). Srila Prabhupad called mayavadi people 'sunyavadi' (proponents of voidism) [His Divine Grace chuckles]. 'Sunya' means void, nothing, so those people are actually not followers of any doctrine (vada) – they have no doctrine (sunya-vada).

There is somebody getting whom you will not need or want to get anybody else. That 'somebody' is Krishna. Therefore, we must surrender at the holy feet of Lord Krishna, and to do that, we must first worship Nitai. Nityananda Prabhu is non-different from guru-tattva.

What I said is written in the book Sri Nityananda Mahimamrita. Get this book and take it with you. Also, many of you have Upadesh books (volume one and two), and I have told you that you would get Upadesh, volume three, by the time of Nityananda Prabhu's appearance day. [His Divine Grace shows the newly printed volume.] Read this book. There are answers to many questions in this book. For example, somebody asked Prabhupad Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, 'How does one get the right to serve Krishna (Krsna-seva-adhikar)?' Srila Prabhupad replied, 'One cannot attain this right without first becoming liberated (mukta). Only those who are freed from the illusion of this world have the qualification to serve Lord Krishna. Krishna belongs only to Radharani, so it is impossible to become qualified to serve Krishna without service to Radharani.' You also do that (attempt to serve Krishna without service to Radharani). When we were in Vrindavan, one Prabhu who lives in Vrindavan asked me,

'Maharaj, let us go to the temple of Mirabai.'

'What for? Why must I go there?' I asked in reply.

'Well, because everybody goes there.'

'Yes, everybody goes there, but my Gurupadpadma, Guru Maharaj and Prabhupad never went there.'

What did Mirabai sing? 'I have got the jewel of Krishna-prema.' Mahaprabhu, on the other hand, said, 'I have not got any love for Krishna! I have no attachment, no attraction to Krishna!' The Lord Himself (Krishna Himself!) says, 'I have not got any love for Krishna!' but Mirabai sat there and said, 'I have got Krishna-prema!'

রাধা-ভজনে যদি মতি নাহি ভেলা ।
কৃষ্ণ-ভজন তব অকারণ গেলা ॥

radha-bhajane yadi mati nahi bhela
krsna-bhajana tava akarana gela

'If you did not become devoted to the worship of Srimati Radharani, your worship of Krishna was in vain.'

রাধার দাসীর কৃষ্ণ সর্ব্ব বেদে বলে

radhara dasira krsna sarva-vede bole

'Krishna is the property of the maidservants of Srimati Radharani. All Vedas say this.'

(Gitavali, Sri Radhastaka, by Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur)

Whom does Krishna belong to? To the maidservants of Radharani. If you serve the maidservants of Radharani, then only can you meet Krishna. What else is said in a kirtan?

রাধিকা দাসী যদি হোয় অভিমান ।
শীঘ্রই মিলই তব গোকুল কান ॥

radhika-dasi yadi haya abhimana
sighrai milai taba gokula kana

'Those who pride themselves on being maidservants of Sri Radha will quickly meet Gokula Kan (Krishna).'

(Sri Gitavali, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

This pride is not the pride, or ego, that people have in this world. It means that if you can serve the maidservants of Radha, then you can meet Krishna (Gokula Kana).

Therefore, who is Krishna? He is the property of Radharani. You can never become qualified to serve Krishna without service to Radharani. And gurudev is an associate of Srimati Radharani; therefore, only gurudev can give one the right to serve Krishna. If your guru gives you the right to serve Krishna, then you will have the qualification to do that. It is very clearly explained how one attains service to Krishna.

Parikrama of Sri Govardhan
'How do we do parikrama? Govardhan is like a peacock, our temple is near Manasa Ganga, at the mouth of Govardhan, and we start the parikrama from the tail and do half portion one day, and the second half the next day.'

When we do some service and increase our own enjoyment, it is not good.
Through that enjoyment ego can come.
