(3/11) Pursue Eternal Wealth

There are very rich people in this world who have millions. If you read today's newspaper, you can see some news about the third richest person in the world, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani. He has two sons, Jai Anmol Ambani and Jai Anshul Ambani. They are the third richest family in the world, so you can imagine how many millions of billions of rupees they have. So, they write now that this Anil Ambani has a debt of 413 crore rupees (4.13 bn). They have to pay it back within a month now, otherwise they will go to jail for three months. Do you think they will go to jail for three months? Of course not. Not even for one moment. They will pay it back. When the court ruled that they had to pay that money or go to jail, the man said, 'No problem, I will pay it in three days.' So, you can imagine how much money they have and what an opulent life they live. Despite all their riches, even they will have to leave this world one day. Demigods also live in the lap of luxury in heaven, but when their lifetime finishes, they, too, will have to leave heaven and come back to this world – they may or may not get a human birth.

We think that if we had a lot of money, we would live a happy life, but everything depends on our fate and fortune. You can be rich, but you can lose 413 crore rupees in one day. For rich people, these 413 crore rupees is nothing – they give aeroplanes as wedding presents; they celebrate their sons' weddings during a whole year. But no matter how rich you are, it does not mean you will not suffer. Even rich people suffer from the three-fold miseries: adhibhautik, adhidaivik, adhyatmik (miseries caused by your body, by the nature, and other souls).

The only way one can get relief from this suffering is to take shelter at the holy feet of the Lord. Therefore, it is my humble appeal to you all that no matter whether you are happy or unhappy, always chant the Holy Name of the Lord ('Sukhe duhkhe bhulo naka vadane Harinama kara re'; সুখে দুঃখে ভুলো নাক, বদনে হরিনাম কর রে). When you are eating, lying down, sitting around, always chant the Holy Name of the Lord. There are no rules or regulations about when you can chant the Holy Name. You can chant at any place, at any time, even when you are in the bathroom. You can practise Krishna consciousness and chant the Holy Name at any time and place.

কি শয়নে, কি ভোজনে, কিবা জাগরণে ।
অহর্নিশ চিন্ত কৃষ্ণ, বলহ বদনে ॥

ki sayane, ki bhojane, kiba jagarane
aharnisa chinta krsna, balaha vadane

'Whether you are lying down, eating or waking up, incessantly think about Krishna and chant the Name of Krishna with your mouth.'

(Sri Chaitanya-bhagavata, 2.28.28)

Sadhus always think about Krishna.

So, always practise Krishna consciousness. Listen about the Lord with your heart. There are two kinds of things in this world, what you like (preyo) and what is good for you (sreyo) – you must learn to love what is good for you (make sreyo your preyo); do not think that if you like something, then that is good for you (that your preyo is your sreyo). You must have appreciation not for what your mind tells you to do but for what is actually good for you. Do not do what is not beneficial, what will bring bad consequences to your life.
