(5/9) Modadrumdwip's Ardent Brahman His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
From the temple of Dvija Vaninath we went to Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda (the place where we chanted the 'Jaya Radhe Jaya Krishna' kirtan). After that, you heard about Vidyanagar. I also told you about Srila Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya, who was Brihaspati, the guru of demigods, and in Kali-yuga, he became Srila Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya. I told you about him nicely and in detail. After that, we went to Jahan Nagar and, finally, to Mamgachi. In some places, I just start making up kirtans from poetry because many times when I read poetry before, nobody listened to it, so now I just chant it as kirtans with some tune. There is one more place where we did not go to. It is Maganpur. It used to be called Matapur (Mathapur?), but now the name has become Maganpur. When we went to Saranga Thakur's temple, you may have noticed Madan-Gopal Deity (Lord Krishna's Deity) near Radha-Gopinath. That Deity of Lord Krishna came from Chattogram, Bangladesh through a godbrother of the temple's contemporary founder. The temple is situated in Modadrumdwip. Srivas Pandit's wife, Sri Malini Devi, came from there (her paternal uncle lived there), and later Narayani Devi, Srivas Pandit's niece, was married in that area, too. One time, there lived a great brahman devotee of Lord Rama in Modadrumdwip. The brahman always chanted the Holy Names of Lord Rama:
রঘুপতি রাঘব রাজা রাম, পতিত পাবন সীতারাম
raghupati raghava raja-rama, patita pavana sita-rama Glory to the Master of the Raghu dynasty; glory to Raghava (descendent of the solar dynasty); glory to Sita-Rama who rescue all fallen souls. Glory to Lord Sri Rama! When Mahaprabhu appeared at the house of Jagannath Misra, that brahman was present at his house. When he saw the festival arranged in honour of Gaura's advent, he thought, 'My Lord Ramachandra must have secretly appeared at the house of Jagannath Misra! My Lord must have personally come in this Kali-yuga, assuming the form of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. This child is not ordinary – various supramundane signs are visible in Him.' Do children appear from their mothers' wombs wearing tilaks, brahman threads? Even if a brahman has a child, does his child appear wearing a brahman thread? No. No ordinary children are born like that – they are given a brahman thread later in their lives. But Mahaprabhu appeared wearing a brahman thread, tilaks, neckbeads. Krishna also appeared like that, holding a conch, a disc, a club and a lotus. As the brahman was thinking about all this, he thought, 'Jagannath Misra and Sachi Devi must be Dasarath and Kaushalya then!' Looking at Mahaprabhu again and again, the brahman eventually went back to his home in Mamgachi (Modadrumdwip). He kept thinking about the Lord's hidden incarnation. Mahaprabhu's advent is known as hidden incarnation (chhanna avatara) because Krishna steals Radharani's heart and halo and comes a Gauranga Mahaprabhu to this world. Nobody except devotees can understand this. Not being able to discern the reason for the Lord's hidden incarnation, the brahman meditated on Lord Ramachandra, praying to Him to reveal the reason to him, but eventually he fell asleep, thinking about Lord Ramachandra. Lord Gaurasundar granted His darshan to the brahman. Seeing His beautiful form, the brahman became extremely surrendered and prayed at the holy lotus feet of the Lord to know the reason for His hidden incarnation. Then, he suddenly saw Krishna's form, then again suddenly Gaura's form. Perplexed, the brahman again prayed, 'What is reason for Your appearance and advent in this form?' The Lord mercifully spoke to him, 'What did I come to this world for? I will tell you the reason, but do not tell about it to anybody.' Srila Prabhupad describes this pastime in one of his books. Moreover, Srila Prabhupad was the one who re-established the service at all the temples in Nabadwip.
